Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden is out for six weeks after fracturing his right fibula.
Holden suffered the injury during United States’ 2-1 international friendly defeat to Holland on Wednesday night.
The news comes as a disappointment to Trotters manager Owen Coyle who had been impressed with Holden’s recent displays.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle wants to sign United States midfield star Stuart Holden on a full-time deal after his impressive start.
Holden is only on a short-term contract until the summer when he goes to the World Cup, but Coyle has an option to keep him at the Reebok for a further year and is keen to exercise that.
And Wanderers, who have taken to the Aberdeen-born star’s all-action enthusiastic style, are likely to take up that clause in the next few weeks.
Holden is a free agent and Coyle wants him nailed down on a long contract if terms can be agreed with his agent. But both camps seem optimistic on an agreement.

Update:
Holden came off the field with a bruised shin, and was taken for x-rays after the USA’s 2-1 loss to the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Recommendation:
Holden joins the list of injured American starts, while the World Cup is now less than three months away. The extent of the injury is not fully known, but Bolton will not be happy, as it looks like the type of knock that will cost Stu some time.

They signed him for another year, but he’s out six weeks with a fractured shin.

For that tackle Netherland’s player did to Holden should have been given a red card. That’s how you end players careers.
