POLL: Should Red Bull New York’s Web Site Be Available in Portuguese?

Posted by mlsrumors Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 at 7:56 pm

We at MLSR love Red Bull Arena. We also would love for the club to sort of reinvent themselves and draw in the already soccer mad Brazilian and Portuguese descended populations of Harrison, NJ where Red Bull Arena is located. Two of the largest segments of foreign born residents according to the 2000 US Census are from Portugal (16%) and Brazil (11%).

Right now, all MLS club’s are currently re-vamping their web sites. For those reasons we post the following poll, the results of which will be sent along to Red Bull NY.

  10. Look at the top banner Sounders FC’s website. That’s how you do it. You can even view theirs in Swedish. You can’t expect to have a global following if you do not even make content accessible through different languages.

  14. Of course they should…teams should play to their fanbase strenghts, no matter who/what they are.

Now they’ll need to worry about holding the INTEREST of Brazilian fans with the on-pitch product… :)

  20. If only to placate another demographic. Seriously. There’s wisdom in that.

It also challenges the notion that one particular language is the only foreign language spoken in the US. Those people aren’t interested in a multilingual society; they want linguistic separatism.

The more languages, the more we realize that English is the linguistic center circle.

    Yes.

  24. Scratch my previous comment. Before the beginning of last season, Soundersfc.com gave the option of selecting from around 10 different languages but that’s gone now.
