STADIUM: Houston Debate Over Dynamo Stadium Heating Up

Posted by Lenny Laymon Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 at 5:06 pm

The Houston Dynamo Stadium situation got a little more complex as a 2nd proposed site emerged last week. Now residents and businesses near the proposed downtown stadium site are speaking out in support of the Dynamo stadium because the alternative to building it is building a jail.

  2. One question, is this a better site than A PLAN. I like more B plan because it looks like houston will have more area to build and even not share the stadium with football. Is A plan still on,or not. B plan looks better and it looks like a new red bull arena can be built there. something unique and shut up those mouths oout there from the politics. Santos de Laguna de Torreon first division in mexico built a better modern home depot center. check it out on google. Territorio santos laguna, google it people. good stadium for houston

New marketing slogan: “MLS! We’re better than jail!”

  6. i like this deal cuz its closer to downtown and it looks like it will have a full roof. but i also want the stadium there cuz i feel for those people if they get a jail instead of a soccer staidum. my community had to go through the same thing between a shopping/art district or a jail. but whatever the plan (and i hate to say this) but i hope it tops red bull arena. that would be great cuz red bull arena is a great stadium and think about the stadium to top it.

  8. @GSG: Are you from Houston? If you were, you would know that this location is about 10 miles from downtown. The original proposed site, in the East End, is literally about half a mile from Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center. I do not think this new idea is a bad location; it’s near the intersection of 59 and 610 and near Uptown. I can see how Bellaire would prefer having it there in place of a jail, since the Gulfton area they border is one of the most dangerous in the city.
