Recently the excellent Kansas City Wizards blog Down the Byline reported the following transfer rumors regarding potential incoming players to Kansas City club:
According to Wizards president, Robb Heineman, the Wizards have made their first two signings of the offseason. Heineman on Twitter said that the team has signed two new international players, a defensive midfielder and a center back.As for the center back, I haven’t found anything for sure, but I have a feeling that this center back the team has sign is likely one of the three Colombians that MLS has recently signed. The fact that these two bits of news came out around the same time makes it seem too much of a coincidence for it to not be one of those 3 players.
We now know the identity of the center back and he is not Colombian but rather 29 year old Argentinian defender, Facundo Imboden as reported on Terra.
“Facundo Imbodenes tentado por el Kansas City Wizard de Estados Unidos.”
Translation: “Facundo Imboden is tempted by the Kansas City Wizards of the United States.”
Facundo Imboden has played previously for Argentina’s Boca Juniors, Colombia’s Millonarios and Chile’s Universidad Católica. He is a 5′ 11″ defender with Copa Libertadores experience under his belt.
What do you Kansas City Wizards supporters think of this potential signing?

Big deal. Wizards need to splash cash for proven MLS players or even some Euro players instead of these cheap South Americans. Last year they brought Hirsig in from Argentina. He didn’t pan out at all. The Wizards need to up the midfield to give Arnaud help. Also, they drafted Chance Myers for as a defender why not put him into games and let the kid have a chance (no pun intended).

Facundo Imboden would fit excellent next to Conrad
Drew, This player would be nothing like hirsig
this player is still in his prime….Hirsig was in his thirties and wasnt a good transfer to anybody that knew south american futbol when it happened
Imboden is an experienced centre back who wont let any MLS team down….this is a Big Deal
your previous manager lacked knowledge of football in other countries so HIrsig seemed like a good signing at the time, i think Vermes has a much better idea and he isnt in his thirties either

It’ll be nice to have someone good to fill in for Conrad when he has another one of his annual concussions… lol

I don’t think “Facundo Imboden” is even a real person. Sounds more like something you’d get by mixing up the tiles on two Scrabble racks to me. Just a random assortment of vowels and consonants.
Not unlike Jimmy Conrad’s ESPN.com columns, come to think of it.
