Nothing new from the other side of the pond. We in the USA should be very weary of doing the same. The US is a team which plays up (or down) to their opponents perceived abilities. Algeria could be the banana peel the USA steps on if they don’t approach the game as one that will be tough. (Remember Ghana in 2006?) Do not underestimate them.

USA goes 3-0, with a 7-2 goal differential.

they go through 3-0 in the group. Its not that i think the group is easy. I believe that the USA can capitilize in this group though and r very determined.

this isnt the team saying this.
this is a tabloid newspaper

Page 3 of the Sun (a topless lady) is the pinnacle of it’s intellectual pursuit. England fans, the team and most importantly Fabio Capello are smart enough to treat all of the teams in the group with respect. The USMNT had better do the same.

a draw with England, and two wins puts US in 2nd round. However, a hickup on Germany’s part will set up England vs Germany in 2nd round. That will be one for the ages, right up there with ww1 & ww2.

^Deltox…..often in national teams, the feeling of the nation is the feeling of the team because they represent that nation and this is especially the case with England since it isnt the biggest country out there
anyways…..
what is good about this is that the last time we played England we lost only 2-0 and we were starting somebody like adu who shouldnt see the adult team for atleast a few more years, let alone a year ago
what England doesnt know is that we could have a line-up and subs bench consisting of….
(if everybody recovers from injuries and stays healthy)
GK-Howard
RB-Spector,RCB-Onyewu,LCB-Demerit,LB-Castillo
RM-Dempsey,CM-Jones,CM-Bradley,LM-Donovan
ST-Davies,ST-Altidore
Any of these players could be subs:
Maurice Edu
Jeff Cunningham
Ricardo Clark
Stuart Holden
Robbie Rogers
Jose Fransisco Torres
Benny Feilhaber
Jonathan Bornstein
Clarence Goodson
Chad Marshall
Steve Cherundolo
Brad Guzan
Conor Casey
Marcus Hahnemann
Troy Perkins
Algeria and Slovenia dont look like that and England has always been so stuck up about the US that they think we have a team like Algeria and Slovenia……I would be in heaven if we beat England

“(Remember Ghana in 2006?)”
yea US Fans definately remember Ghana……i especially remember Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Matthew Amoah, Stephen Appiah, John Paintsil(no Sulley Muntari b/c he was suspended), you know why i remembered them? because they are world class players, nobody on Algeria matches up to them
(Report comment)
wow….and i forgot our captain, Carlos Bocanegra….slide him in at left back and put Castillo on the bench

yea….England is gonna destroy USA

England is NOT assured of qualifying. They did not qualify for WC94 or Euro08 and the players do get overconfident. With the possible exception of Slovenia who may steal points from the other three, anyone can qualify from this group. I expect ties and massive officiating mistakes to go England’s way.
Mister Capello is going to have Jermaine DeFoe and Beckham and Rio and a bunch of other old guys, so it does kind of suck that USA play them first. Slovenia beat out the Czechs, Northern Ireland, and Poland to qualify. All of those teams are about on par with America. Slovenia had 18 GF and 4 GA. USA had 19 GF 13 GA. Jermaine Jones will help, but stopping goals will determine how far America advances.

Austin,
We suppose you looked at Algeria’s path to qualifying right? Qualifying out of CAF (the African Confederation) is no easy task so the USA should respect any African team they face.
To qualify for this world cup Algeria beat The Gambia 1-0, Senegal 3-0 and Liberia 3-2 in the 2nd Round of qualifying.
In other words they beat three West African countries to move on to the 3rd round. West Africa as a whole has some excellent football.
In the third round Algeria beat North African power Egypt 3-1, Rwanda 3-1, and Zambia 1-0.
Yes, they have no “world class stars” but then again by most people’s opinion neither does the USA.
There is a danger that because Americans typically know very little about African football they underestimate the quality of it. While Algeria is no Ghana, it is not Honduras or Costa Rica (teams the US still struggle with away from home).
For the USA there are no “easy games” in this group. Just “easier” ones than had they been in the other groups.
CAF > CONCACAF in terms of level of play across the board. While the US gets to play the weakest of the African teams Algeria is still a team that can hurt them if they don’t take them serious because they have “no world class stars.”

You’d think after their recent tournament performances (WC, Euro, etc.), they’d be a little more humble over there. They feel it’s their birthright to win the WC. Keep thinking that….it will be all the more sweeter.

England will screw it up. They’re almost the same exact team from 2006, with a semi-different attitude. I don’t understand how England can get so cocky every World Cup when they haven’t won one since 1966.

I hope beckham plays so i can go to his bench and steal his inhaler

England are cocky because they have some of the best players in the world. If they had better chemistry, they would be much better than they are (Gerrard, Rooney, and Lampard all on the same team – after playing as hated rivals all year).
I certainly think England will take the group – Cheers to USA advancing in the #2 spot!
