OUTGOING: Houston Dynamo’s Stuart Holden To Aberdeen FC?

Posted by Patrick Beatty Friday, November 20th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Could this man be taking flight from the Houston Dynamo to head overseas?

According to Goal.com (click here for the original article and all the details), Houston Dynamo and USMNT midfielder Stuart Holden could be going to Aberdeen FC in Scotland, which finished 4th in the Scottish League last season.

Manager Mark McGhee is quoted on stv.tv as saying “(Holden) is one we are looking at,” before explaining that a move for the midfielder could happen in January or the team might have to wait until the summer. “He fits into the caliber of player we are trying to sign,” the manager concluded.

“I’m available on a free and I’ve already got a few options in Scotland and England. Moving back to the UK appeals but I have to make sure wherever I end up I’m playing every week. I have a big chance to play at the World Cup in the summer and don’t want to miss out on it by being at the wrong side.”

What do you think? Is the town of Holden’s birth, the place that he should be playing before the World Cup or is there a better fit for him that has playing time and quality? As a Dynamo fan, are you concerned for next season with Clark and Holden potentially out the door? Are young American players improving at the expense of the quality of MLS or is this a good thing for both the USMNT and MLS?

  4. It’s sad that a good, not great American has to settle for a mid-table Scottish side, or Danish Side in order to get payed more. Raise the cap!! Keep Holden, Clark, Kenny Cooper, Parkhurst, Chris Rolfe, etc… This are good American players but all are looking to other leagues for more money. Its not like they are signing for big clubs…

RAISE THE CAP. Keep the young American players that the league is built on.

  6. Definately raise the cap. But come on the MLS is still a step lower than the SPL or Danish league. It’s not just about the money. It’s a chance to get seen by more scouts and coaches if they play for a first divison European team. Also, some of these teams have opportunities to play Europa League football. It’s not about the money, it’s about seeing how far you can take your career. Yes, some players are about the money. Players like Emmanual Adebayor. But this is a chance of a lifetime to go to another leauge. MLS is by far not the best league. It’s a launching pad to bigger leagues.
