The Dynamo have begun to think of life after Ricardo Clark.

According to the Dynamo, the U.S. national team midfielder, whose contract expires next month, has no intention to re-sign with Major League Soccer as he pursues opportunities abroad.

“He’s indicated to us that he’s moving on,” Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti said Tuesday. “We don’t know where he’s going or what his options are.”

  2. I’m sure they’ll be able to find someone to make reckless tackles in the midfield soon enough, its not like there is a lack of that on the Dynamo.

  4. I completely agree with the reckless tackle part, as far as Clark is conserned. When I saw the story, the first thing that came to mind is less fouls by houston.

  6. Ricardo clark is better than any player rsl will ever get

  8. Clark’s right; now’s definitely the time to move for him, especially given the semi-inexpicable amount of game time Bradley’s given him with the USMNT.

Gotta strike while the iron is…uh…sorta warmish!

  10. Houston-

Better than former players Eddie Pope, Jason Kreis, Alecko Eskandarian, Jeff CUnningham, and Freddy Adu? Or even current captain Kyle Beckeman?

    Get real.

  12. Houston,
If by “better” you mean “better at endagering players’ ligaments” then yes, I totally agree. If only RSL could trade with Houston for Ching, or with Colorado for Mastroeini, then perhaps, they could get someone that is “better” than Ricardo Clark. Hopefully Clark starts today against Denmark and pulls something ridiculous as usual and gets himself banned by FIFA at least through the World Cup.

  14. Aww… I’m an RSL guy, and I like Rico. I don’t see anything wrong with him.

  16. I cant believe someone just mentioned Eskandarian in the same breath as Clark. I am belly laughing over here.

  18. and another one bites the dust. and so mls bids farewell to another good player b/c they all rather play in europe. it’s difficult to build a brand when good players leave as soon as they get a chance. even if that means WATCHING their new team play while they sit on the bench, but, at least it’s a european bench.

  20. Ricardo was a great player for Houston and for the MLS. He gave his 100% every game. A majority of his fouls were committed because of fatigue. Houston will miss him and I wish him well in Europe.

If the MLS had more money to pay players then they wouldn’t leave. The US only gives money o American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Golf, and Tennis. Once the US economy tanks again and the US dollar is worth 65 cents, only then will they abandon these expensive sports and look towards soccer as it’s savior! Then big companys like Nabisco, Exxon, etc. will pay top dollar for Messi, Ronaldo, Henry, Rooney, and Drogba to play in the US.

Yes, I know it’s wishful thinking BUT it could happen!

  22. Yeah, Houston could always try and trade for Pablo “The Two-footed Tackle Assassin/Give Me A Red Card Now!” Mastroeini.

  26. Lol @ RSL Rob and Sounders Fan, your team has quality players, but this is a fact. Robbie Findley and Kyle Beckerman are BOTH behind the depth charts on the Nats, then Ricardo Clark, Stevie Holden and Brian Ching. And if you wanna talk about reckless tackling and play, ummm, olave anyone? Oh Jason Kreis is not better then a lot of current dynamo players.

  27. Sounders Fan Says:
  28. Point of clarification:

1.) I wasn’t saying all of those guys were better than Clark in 2009 (or even when they played for RSL necessarily). Just that they HAD been very successful players (for the record, Eskandarian led DCU in soring AND was named MLS Cup MVP in 2004). But saying RSL’s never had anyone who’s ever been a better player than Clark on their roster’s a joke.

2.) I don’t see where USMNT pecking order factors into it…everybody knows Bradley’s strange about playing his favorites, regardless of form and competition (how else can you explain Kljestan?!?!).

  29. RSLRob Says:
  30. Yeah, being a higher backup for the USMNT isn’t saying too much Tim from Texas. And I never mentioned anything about Clark’s skill. That’s the most frustrating thing about him, he’s talented, but every game its like he gets his crazy man instructions beamed to the metal plate in his head from outer space letting him know that the time has come to put his studs to use and take out someone from behind. And as much Olave fouls, I would rather be fouled 10 times by him then the dangerous crap Clark lays out weekly. Honestly, even the other Dynamo fan admitted he made crap tackles but it was due to fatigue. Fatigue or no fatigue, without Clark in the midfield, Houston will need everyone to pick up the slack if they want to thug their way to wins next year.
