INCOMING: Martin Vasquez to Coach Chivas USA and Preki to Assistant Coach to USMNT?

Posted by Patrick Beatty Friday, November 13th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

According to Goal.com (click here for the original article and all the details), Martin Vasquez may be the head coach of Chivas USA. Aside from having a history with the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA, Vasquez is also friends with Klinsmann and was an assistant at Bayern Munich in 2008. He also has the distinction of playing for both the Mexican and US national teams. He would be the first Mexican American head coach in MLS.

Meanwhile, Preki may be taking the assistant US coaching position left vacant by John Hackworth, who has joined the Philadelphia Union as assistant coach.

What do you think? Like the move with a coach that has MLS and international experience? Is Vasquez a good replacement? Since Chivas USA is a blend of Mexican and many international players, is this the first of several shifts to a more Mexican-centric team? Is Preki making the right move? Is he a good fit for the national team? What does he bring to the table that can help Bradley and the USMNT?

  2. I am both a die hard usmnt supporter and chivas usa….

I don’t wanna see preki as part of the usmnt he is to much of a hot head. I hope he doesn’t ever become the head coach he lost a lot of respect of the chivas usa players at the end of his tenure, he loves to play guys out of postion for example playing flores and mayen as backs when they are mids they told me themselves that is their prefered positions, that i believe gave rongen the idea to put them in the back at the u20 world cup………. playing padilla as a mid when hes a striker and so on…………

as for vasquez how do u figure it would make the team more mexican-centric when he played a greater role for the usmnt, then he ever did for los tres jalapenos er i mean el tri.

i am stoked to see what vasquez can do he knows the league he was an assistant for the galaxy and also chivas usa……..also coaching in germany is a big plus

  4. Chivas USA is a good club. I understand it is Mexican owned but I feel they should rebrand and assume their own identity. After losing to CD Guadalajara in September 2-0, Chivas USA should just call themselves Chivas Juniors, or Chivalitos if they insist on riding off a Mexican club.

  6. Dino1er this,”as for vasquez how do u figure it would make the team more mexican-centric when he played a greater role for the usmnt, then he ever did for los tres jalapenos er i mean el tri” isn’t even an argument on behalf of an opinion, so next time your thinking about saying something utterly retarded, use your cabeza pendejo.

and as for “American of Costan Rican Decent” you should worry about how the best club in motherland, C.D. Saprissa is owned by a Mexican who doesn’t give a rats ass about Costan Rican’s or their football, but simply the money. At least Chivas USA’s audience has to do with Mexicans and Mexican Americans unlike that bitch ass Guadalajara carbon copy Saprissa.

  8. Its all speculation at this point. Preki peaked as coach of CUSA. He lost the locker room in the summer and never got it back. He thumbed his nose at Guadalajara by insisting on MLS vets like Jazic/Victorine/Harmse.

I really don’t care if its Vasquez or someone else. We have to get a coach that will draft well, develop young players, and play attacking soccer.

You guys suck, you’re an idiot. I think you knew that already.

  12. Its pretty much confirmed on the Toronto Star, Preki is going to Toronto. They are finally giving up the idea that importing coaches from the English Championship is a good idea and going after MLS experience.

But I HATE COACHES that take players out of their natural positions! I wonder what Guevara thinks? His future with TFC?

  14. TFC can afford to lose Guevara now that they have De Ro and De Guz.

Guevara is at the world cup next year, too… so….

Preki in Guevara out will help TFC, not hurt it at this point.
