OUTGOING: Conor Casey from Colorado Rapids?

Posted by mlsrumors Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 at 6:44 pm

According to MLSNet things are not too rosy in Colorado and after hearing the following incident, one might wonder just wear in the world Conor Casey will be playing next season. One thing is certain, he’s pretty much done with Colorado:

As the squad ran an extra end-of-practice lap around a pair of adjacent fields, Conor Casey, arguably the Rapids’ most valuable player this season, stormed off the field, hurling expletives at head coach Gary Smith and assistant coach Steve Guppy, telling them they didn’t know how to deal with people and saying, “I’m done. Trade me!”

So what MLS club would you see going after Conor Casey?

  2. What team WON’T go for Conor Casey? Maybe Chivas & Galaxy would pass on him. Can’t see anyone else not at least talking to him.

  16. Won’t believe it until the deal is made.

  18. From reading the whole story, it sounds more like the Rapids should be axing their manager instead of trading their best attacker.

Who makes professional athletes run a “punishment” lap? What professional athlete learns anything from a “punishment” lap?

    Seriously?

  20. Punishment lap? How second-grade can you get?

He’s exactly what Seattle needs, a bruising striker to pair alongside the finesse guys we already got.

I’m still a relative newbie to MLS. Can anyone help me understand how transfers work? Someone’s gotta trade Colorado something for Casey, right?

  28. He automatically makes the US National Team better.

He would be perfect for Beckham and Klein crosses in LA.

  31. Fire MLS Cup Champs Says:
  32. Honestly, you have someone who is living the dream. He has found success for club and is finding some time on the picth at the national level. If he is going to whine like a diva about running…which is a large part of the game…they should dump him. Even if it is a punishment lap, how can I respect a temper tantrum from a professional? Last time I checked Colorado was not dominant in the league, they have room to get better. I would put up with it if they brought home trophies, but the ACES cup doesn’t count, unless you live in your moms basement, then it means everything. Would I want a cry baby on my team. No way. It affects morale, ship him far far away. Hook him up with one of the great Norwiegan league teams where many MLS players go to fade away. Would I want him in Chicago? Nope. I want entertainment not from practice headlines, I want a player who produces and acts like a professional. With Blanco leaving in Chicago, I would not want to replace him with Casey. Then again here we are speculating about what happened at practice, maybe the coach kicked his cat, or slept with his dog. His tantrum could be about anything.

  37. Plz dont play him, Bob Says:
  38. I swear to god, if Bradley plays him in the world cup instead of holden/donovan/dempsey/altidore attacking quadrangle we have no chance. His goals against Honduras were pure luck, it took him 15 caps to tally, and he misses wide empty nets multiple times every game with his favored foot. Even if he would make any MLS team better, you can bet no 2nd division team outside the US would want him.

    its punishment for playing crap.

  42. Plz dont play him, Bob couldn’t be more right. Casey does not deserve to be on the national team, the goals he has scored were luck, and he has blown far too many easy opportunities.

  54. Casey’s goals against Honduras were pure luck?
    Bwahahahahaha!
    You guys crack me up.
The first was all about him outleaping the keeper.
The second was a clinical finish.

Neither one had to do with luck.
If you don’t think he’s the solution for the Nats, fine. But don’t go making s;hit up.

  63. Sounders Fan Says:
  64. It’s the end of the season…Casey can say crap like this to blow off steam if he wants because he’s not gonna see those guys again for a few months.

Besides…what says the Rapids coaching staff is gonna be intact at the start of next season?

Rich’s right, pretty much a non-story. So far, anyway.

  65. Mcglock Says:
  66. Casey is awful. How he scored so many goals is beyond me. He has no technical ability whatsoever. If he plays in the World Cup we are definitely not getting out of our group.

  67. RevsFan Says:
  68. Wow, what a baby. So while his teammates manned up, this guy has too much of an ego to be a team player? What a b*tch. Dude, maybe you can convert some PK’s but your not thattt amazing. This behavior should send up warning signs to any interested team… As for USMNT play, Casey is garbage for the USMNT. As for his two goal game; even a blindfolded monkey throwing his own feces at a dartboard will hit bullseye every once in awhile…

  69. RSLfan Says:
  70. I could see Casey if Philadelphia if Colorado were to actually trade for him. But that would require Philly having players to trade. Maybe they’d nab him in the expansion draft, and do like Toronto to RSL with Kries. Draft him, then trade him back for more players
