TRADE: Red Bulls send Mike Magee to Galaxy

Posted by MLS Rumors Tuesday, January 13, 2009

According to various league sources, Red Bull New York has completed another trade prior to the MLS Draft. Midfielder/Forward Mike Magee has been sent to the LA Galaxy, what New York is receiving in exchange has not yet been confirmed. Speculation is that New York was interested in fullback Mike Randolph, however it is also possible a draft pick or allocation funds may be involved. Magee was the longest tenured Red Bull player, having played for the club for six years. The 24 year old Magee who has represented the United States at the Under 23 level had a bounce back season after two prior injury plagued seasons, he netted 5 goals in 27 appearances for NY in 2008. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena has always rated Magee and has been actively trying to bring him to LA.

  2. We need all the help we can get!

MAGEE & KIROVSKI are better than ALAN GORDON .. ..

At least with those three plus EDSON BUDDLE we have a decent pool of strikers to choose from .. ..

It would be nice to have LANDON back, but if we are trading for 'Landon-Lite' then LANDON will not be back .. ..

  4. I think i see the reasoning behind this. Bruce wants Magee at RM and play Klein at Right Back, then Becks in CAM. Sean Franklin goes to CB and then they get a CB and LB from abroad or draft and trades. Add a defensive mid in their and this team is the best in MLS.

  8. please please get gordon outta here!

  9. Frankly, the Galaxy should get rid of Klein. He has no business being on the back line and he doesn't have the speed anymore to be as effective on the flank.

  13. Poor "Flash" Gordon. He's such a nice guy, but looks so out-of-place on the pitch.

  15. Bruce has openly stated that Klein will be returning to the midfield this season. Specifically he mentioned Klein as a CM.

The plan which was mentioned to me had a penciled backline of Jazic at LB, Bautista (then dubbed "S. American Player"), Chavez (AKA "a player on loan"), and Franklin on the right.

Midfield was supposedly to consist of Lewis, McDonald (attacking) and Klein (defensive) in the middle, and Beckham remaining on the right.

    Donovan and Buddle up top.

This was before Donovan and Becks had their loan deals, who knows if they're still thinking the same thing.

Honestly that plan didn't seem like anything Bruce would do, but had an air of work with what we have.

  17. Magee is sick and should do well for LA where ever they put him. Very creative and competitive player!!

  19. Magee sucks

  20. How can Klein be a defensive midfielder when he's such a poor defender? How can McDonald be an attacking midfielder when he's fundamentally a defensive player, especially during his collegiate career? If what "anonymnous" says is true, then the Galaxy's depth is truly pathetic.

  21. galazy dont have enoguh money for waht they need, need a whole new back line except for franklin, a dmid an amid and if they lose donovan if he goes abroad permantely they are going to need a major striking threat, galaxy are in deep bnecause migloranzi, kirovoksi, and magee or not gonna get it done.

  23. McDonald is a good dribbler, but i don't see him having the creativity to play CAM. I'd restrict him to CM or CDM.
