For all the hoo-ha and ballyhoo about MLS clubs failing in this year's CONCACAF Champions League, when compared to their USL counterparts, one thing they have not failed in is getting a point on the road in two hostile places where MLS clubs had, until this year, NEVER gotten a point: Mexico City, Mexico and San Jose's Saprissa Stadium, Costa Rica. We believe these are quite big accomplishments and both of these draws easily could have been wins. Had they then we'd have heard a lot more ballyhoo about them.
Here are the videos:
DC United (reserves) 2-2 Draw with Deportivo Saprissa last night
Houston's 4-4 Draw with Pumas UNAM last week

MLS is still miles away from the quality of either league.
Didn't the Islanders from USL get a draw in Costa Rica earlier in the tournament?
Did the islanders reserve team get the draw or the first 11?
you can say what you want, but 1st teams can handle these mexican or costa ricans, a coupe of injuries really hurts our teams iwth no depth. What the US lacks is going to diving school. It seems evry game the ref always falls for there these cheating divers. makes me feel like i am watching that gay guy louganis or something. Whats worse is that we get fouled harder and stay on our feet, even if we were to fall there is still no call. I think these hispanis refs are used to this kind of diving, they feel that if there is no dive its not a foul. I WOULD HAVE for my teams to act like these ----- but it seems like thats the only way to match them or else there is a clear advantage. Whats worse is that its not just the hispanic refs it all concacaf they all fall for it, I would like to see there diving with EPL ref, he will tel that sissy to get his arse up.
I understand where you're coming from, but there is something else that has to be considered, and that's the fact that some of these other teams are also playing with reserves. for example in their last game Atlante used only one of their First 11 and that was their keeper, who scored their only goal on a wicked free kick.
As an MLS fan, I want our teams to succeed, knowing a lot about North American teams in general, I can assure you that was not Saprissa's full First 11.
Suckprissa's second goal was offside.
The Islanders played their first XI against Aluejense. It is just more recently with the USL playoffs weighing down Puerto Rico that Clarke has sent a reserve team out for the Champions League. Puerto Rico's Starting XI got through the preliminary rounds and won the first two CCL matches. Now their reserves have been routed twice and the Islanders are on the brink of elimination. USL like MLS does not have the depth to field a second XI in these competitions.
routed twice?
The Islanders have only lost one game in the entire tournament.
The Islanders still have wins coming up Oct 23 against Municipal, and Oct 29 against Tauro.
The Islanders will be in the next round
