NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Soccer has suspended New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway and defender Jeff Parke — the first players in the league's history to be penalized for using performance-enhancing drugs.

The two players were banned Thursday for 10 league games each.

They tested positive for androstatriendione and boldenone metabolites after purchasing and using an over-the-counter nutritional supplement from a vitamin store that is part of a national chain, the league said.

Each player also was fined 10 percent of his salary. Conway makes $115,000 this season, and Parke has a base salary of $57,488.

MLS began testing for performance-enhancing substances in 1999.

So much for that Positive Message for the New York Area...

  2. It would be interesting to know when the tests were done. were the players allowed to play for any matches after the tests?

Did RSL face players that should have been suspended earlier did the league let them play to boost the likelyhood of a team from a major market making the playoffs?

  4. So what's so bad about androstatriendione and boldenone metabolites if it's available over the counter? Do they ban Creatine as well?
