And yes we noticed the "feasbility" typo. We left it uncorrected to show that even the big boys at the biggest news organizations make them. [So get off our Back. K.Thx -editors]

Maryland: D.C. United Stadium Would Bring Jobs, Revenue

A new soccer stadium in Prince George's County for D.C. United would create up to 1,300 jobs and bring up to $6 million in tax revenue for the county and state, according to a feasbility study released today by the Maryland Stadium Authority.

The study, which will be presented to Prince George's officials today, could ramp up the competition between Maryland and the District over the future home of United, whose ownership group has been stymied in its effort to build a 27,000-seat stadium at Poplar Point in Southeast Washington.

A stadium in Prince George's would have 54-63 events per year, including 15 games for United and cumulative annual attendance for all activities is estimated between 680,000 - 841,000, according to the $75,000 study by Crossroads Consulting Services.

A news release stated that the project would create between 1,080 and 1,320 jobs, bring in gross revenues of $25.2 million to $30.8 million per year and generate between $1.8 million to $2.2 million in taxes for Prince George's and another $3.2 million to $3.9 million in tax for the state of Maryland.

  2. when you quote a source which makes a spelling mistake, you let others know that it was the source which made the mistake by adding "[sic]" after the mistake. so here it would be "feasbility [sic]".

  4. It baffles and angers me that Wasthington, DC would bend over backwards and spread its legs for a franchise of fail--the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals--and give them a state-of-the-art stadium almost immediately, but constantly make D.C. United--arguably its most successful sports franchise EVER--jump through hoops to get its own stadium. What corruption.

  5. Corruption, or the difference between national pasttime and a growth sport?

I'm betting the latter. MLB and the NFL can basically get whatever they want because they are the big boys.

No one bends over to help the NBA or NHL, so quit the whining when MLS doesn't get support from city governments.

You want MLS to get support, help its fan base grow. Until then, we are just third tier sports fans.
