REPORT: Mass Away Support Expected at US Open Cup Final Tonight

Posted by MLSR Wednesday, September 3, 2008

We have been getting reports from Charleston Battery fans since the weekend about a massive trip to the nation's capital organized by supporters and their front office in support of Open Cup underdogs, the Charleston Battery of the USL-1, the 2nd tier of US club soccer.

The game will kick off at 7:30pm on Fox Soccer Channel (there may be an MLSR stream powered by Justin.tv so check back at game time).

According to some travelers more than two busloads of people are on their way or in the nation's capital as we speak with many others making the trip by plane. Additionally the front office of Charleston Battery is also paying for the wives and girlfriends of Charleston players and staff to make the trip.

In all between 300-400 people will make the trip making this likely a contender for largest away support at a US Open Cup Final in the modern era of the 94 year old tournament.

Not happy with their original seats in the section of RFK Stadium reserved for away supporters we have this from the Battery front office:

"DC United has responded and Battery fans we are moving! Not far, but no longer are our tickets in sections 328 and 329, we are moving down one section closer to the field, section 227.
This section has been held for Battery supporters only and has 252 seats. Let's fill them all!
Those who have already called in and purchased their tickets with DC United office, don't worry, they held off on printing and sending all tickets for Battery fans and you will be moved to section 227 today.

Call Zach to get your $17 ticket: 202-587-5469
THANK YOU DC for making this change for us.

Reminder, please call me before Friday to reserve your spot on the bus. 971-4625 X 206
Thanks and GO BATTERY!
Amy"
