Special thanks to an MLSR reader for the tip off.

Remember the promising Haitian striker Johnny Exantus from Red Bull New York's youth academy? The same one Ives Galarcep said that Red Bull might sign in a year or two because he was not yet "ready for MLS?"

Well like another young prospect who Steve Goff said was "not yet ready for MLS", Bryan "Mookie" Arguez who made the jump from DC United's reserves to German club Hertha Berlin, Johnny X has also made the jump to European football.

According to the club's website:

Royal Racing FC Montegnée are pleased to confirm the signing of Haitian international forward Johnny Exantus (18). Johnny is a very promising young centre forward from Haiti, who has been an integral part of the New York Red Bulls academy for a number of years..

RRFC Montegnée is also pleased to announce an agreement to sign Panamanian internationals Juan Degracia (18) Armando Gunn (21) Barrios Gerardo (20) from Panamanian 1st division club, FC Chepo.

  2. That team is a regional division 4 club, their mission statment is to provide opportunities for young men that are studying abroad, most of the players are american or canadian, it is not a step over MLS. They are basically a semi-pro club.

  4. It still is kind of a shocker since he was assumed to sign with Red Bull. Basically he or his agent decided that was not worth it.

  6. "FC Chepo".

I thought that was New England's second name, but suppose it could apply to any MLS team that doesn't rhyme with Dalaxy.

  8. MLS needs to boost the rosters, international roster slots and high salary cap. Teams don't have the depth to play for multiple trophies and MLS's international cup runs are pointless.

However, Johnny X doesn't seem like a guy MLS missed out on.

  10. actually the club is in the 5th Division at the moment, the kicker is that in Belgium if you play/live for 3 years you can get a Belgian passport, aka EU passport allowing him to play as a local anywhere in europe, opening his opportunities dramatcially. No from that perspective it is a better move than NYRB and their 4 year 12k contract...
