First off, we're very sorry that we had to temporarily stop posting rumors. We'll spare you the boring details as you no doubt have had enough of them.
Skip to "And we're back!" below if you don't care to know what we've been up to while NOT posting rumors.
Suffice to say our friend in Salt Lake felt the need to get "all lawyered up", guess that's just how he rolls, "Why I'll sue!".
So what that meant for us was we need to take a day off from rumor mongering make sure we were within our rights under the law and consulted our own attorney and a friend at the EFF.
Posting an email sent to an email address which has always been a maildrop for public postings on this site is not a crime nor is it defamation nor slander as the emails we posted are the author's own words.... on a news and rumor site.
Of course his lawyer probably already told him that.
IF he thinks he has it bad he ought to talk to Sarah Palin. Apparently someone hacked into her personal email and Gawker.com has had it posted for over a week without legal action. Hmmmmmm.......I guess we're so screwed for posting an email sent to OUR mailbox from a guy who did not request anonymity.... Oops.
ALRIGHT ENOUGH CRAP! Lets get to the RUMORS!
"And we're back!"
CREW On The Move!?!
Chances our you probably read this rumor yesterday elsewhere. If you haven't then go to this post over on Soccer By Ives.
Basically Ives speculates that an investment group seeking to buy a minority stake in the ownership and operations of the "cowtown" club would potentially move them to bright lights of Vegas.
Here is a link to the original Sports Business Journal story that spawned the speculation which turned into a rumor.
Our view is that the Crew will go nowhere. They are simply too MASSIVE to move. Don't believe us, just look at Sigi.....
See? Massive!
Ok that was kinda mean but hey, one thing that can't be denied is that MLS would be very reticent about moving the club which built the first modern soccer specific stadium in America to another city. We're not saying it is impossible but it would set a horrible precedent in that no community will look at the permanence of a soccer specific stadium quite the same way. As it stands now, building a stadium means the team and league are going no where. It is a way to boost confidence in the product MLS is trying to sell not only to communities where stadium negotiations are underway but also potential investors. You know, the market hates instability and all that.
So, no, we doubt that the Crew are going anywhere. What MIGHT be fun to speculate on is what new money to the Crew would mean for the old rumor that they may move into a better stadium elsewhere in the Columbus area or make major improvements on Crew Stadium.

Chivas USA to CD Las Vegas makes more sense to me. It would take some balls to abandon Crew Stadium.
You're nuts. They're as good as gone and I say good riddance. Crew stadium will make for a nice outdoor concert venue.
Your glib commentary is pathetic.
I love Crew Stadium. Great atmosphere, great location, great fans, and the best team in the country. Moving to another part of Columbus is not necessary. The Crew are MLS originals with the 1st stadium... they are here to stay!
I hope crew fans now realize that there is a possibility that the team moves and they stop making pathetic excuses as to why it wouldn't happen. It's out there now, they wouldn't believe it even though numbers show there not a money maker. support your club.
One of the investors is a former crew player. That is why they bought the shares, not because they want to move the team or even that it would be possible to.
Las Vegas is a suprise, but these type of rumors will become common when one or two cities have rejected expansion plans. Columbus has a history with MLS, but if the Crew cann't make money in Columbus they will get sold to an owner with moving on the mind.
Columbus is a crappy market and they should get the Crew out ASAP. It won't happen yet unfortunately but why keep a team in a city that doesn't support it? Their attendance sucks, the atmosphere is non existent and they're not making money. Owners will only sit for so long without seeing some ROI. I expect C-bus to be the first candidate for relocation after the all the expansion cities are picked. Of course with only 3 clubs actually turning a profit, there are a lot of relocation candidates.
I don't by the whole Columbus has a histroy with MLS thing. If it isn't working it's gotta go, plain and simple.
I never seen so many people speaking with so little knowledge.

then you never been to the republican convention.
Why Las Vegas? Yes it's a major city without a serious professional franchise. But it's over 100 degrees outside from March to October. Soccer is not a warm weather sport. Not going to build a costly indoor stadium and play on turf (turf needs to be eliminated from MLS). The only way it could be feasible is if MLS adopts Apertura/Clasura scheduling, which would avoid some of the hot weather.
I hope Columbus dosen't go. It's the only team that every other organization can point there finger at and laugh. there the blueprint on how not to run a club and how not to have fans.
Come Crew fans! Get out there and fill Crew Stadium for the playoffs! Maybe spend a little less on beer and foam fingers at Buckeyes games, and use that money for more Crew tix instead.
Seriously, it's depressing to MLS fans when the club is so good, but the venue is so empty.
Before Crew supporters say that their average attendance is good or at par with other MLS clubs I must first point out. CREW is the best team in the fucking league today and they should have every game Sold out!
How hard is it to support a winning club?
I never seen so many people speaking with so little knowledge.

An you've never been to a democratic convention.
All politicians and politcal parties suck. Figure it out. They dont care about you!
i believe in ANARCHY!
Don't get support? Did you see our match against NE? only 15k or so. Do see games in KC, NY? Chicago has had some poor games in there too.
You want to say that we don't support our team, we'll you're outta yer fucking mind!
This year, compared to last year, attendance is down, but in terms of noise and fan participation, we are MASSIVE! ... and yes, MLSR, so is Sigi. :)
The Crew are supported by their fans, but we have a much, MUCH stronger market-type to compete against than any other club in the country compared to market size.
Keep telling yourself that. The Numbers don't lie, your team is on a downward spiral and even a winning season hasn't seemed to change that. Garber and MLS would be hard pressed to keep the team in Columbus the way things are going.
With how the Crew are progressing, the team and the fans will probably go down as the greatest club and fans in the history of American soccer. MLS CUP HERE WE COME!!!
Listen ever since the Crew moved out of the horseshoe their attendance has been dropping. I love the Crew (season tickets in 97), but this team deserves a better city and better support. They have an interesting supporters group or two, but the stands are far to empty, far too often.
Vegas is a city that MLS needs, and Vegas needs a professional team. No better road trip could be created than away @lav vegas.
Crew are just fine....amazing what some winning can do to get folks in the seats.

They should renovate Crew stadium some. I presonally think that the Crew fans derserve it because they seem pretty underated. From TV it looks like a cemate block with bleachers.
MLSR has the right of it when they say that the club is not moving. Since MLS is trying to brand soccer as a serious commodity that only serious investors should look into and that the communities should support those investors with tax abatements and stadium financing, allowing a franchise to move from a city that invested in their product enough to build a stadium... it would ruin the league.
Granted, no Crew Stadium? I think you would be looking at the future Atlanta Coca-Colas, or the Montreal Quebequois, or the Miami Fusion2.
When someone mentions any sort of sports team relocating to Las Vegas I tend to think to myself...if its such a great sports city why hasnt any other major sports team relocated there already?? For years I've been hearing this...just a question!! Personally...LV is a great town... not to watch sports...but to gamble on them...
its fucked up how people go crazy and support the shit out of a fuckin college team....... but when it comes to professional soccer like only 10 to 15 thousand people show up..... sad i hate that bull shit....
First off - EFF? WOW! Really? You do know their place in the world don't you? They make the ACLU look like a conservative bunch.
And your bragging about being like Gawker and getting away with it? They are the lowest of the low. It looks like you want to fit into the same category.
You may be bracing the "anything goes" environment of the internet, but that just makes you look like an idiot. Legal - maybe? Ethical, admirable - definitely not.
