South African born midfielder Davide Enrico Somma has signed a developmental contract with the San Jose Earthquakes. Somma who is an Italian citizen and also holds a US Green Card, thus not counting as a foreign player in MLS, began his professional career with Perugia in 2004 and last played with Olbia Calcio in Italy's Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. Somma moved to the United States at the age of 14 and was discovered by European clubs during his Florida youth soccer career.

Off Topic but could you guys seriously think about removing about 10 of the 50 widgets you have running on the homepage of this site. It is easily one of the slowest site of any venture I visit - and I'm always waiting on a widget to resolve before I can start scrolling. You quit reading comments when you also have to back to that homepage and wait 20 seconds for it to load everytime.
