Lovely stadium in the middle of nowhere......
I know most MLS fans are going to "crap all over" this one, but I'm pulling for Melnyck here! One hell of stadium they've envisioned!
Way out in the middle of no where....It's not going to happen. I live in Ottawa and I've already emailed MLS about the fact that I will not be heading out to Katana to watch a game.
Build it at Lansdowne and we'll talk.
Yes good job Melnyk! let's build a stadium an hour outside of Ottawa with no Public transit to the location and in a city that dosen't support any sports besides the Sens which nearly went belly up a few times. Yes Melnyk may have the money to bring a team but his ego is all over this one. I hope Garber and MLS decides against this. sounds like they'll let anyone play that will drive a dump truck full of money to headquarters.
This is the equivalent of building BMO out in burlington...
Or Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX
*NOTE* This badge/logo is only a TEMPORARY one. Other than that...Great stadium. but putting it closer to Downtown would actually work. its the reason BMO is successful. And this is a proposal by the Hockey team's President, and this stadium is IN the Senators Property. making Downtown an unlikely possibility.
nice looking stadium
Toyota Park with a wider stage in the middle of nowhere... I'll pass. He wants government money as well which I can guarantee he won't get. If they're going to go to Canada again then go to Montreal or Vancouver where the owners are willing to foot the stadium expansion/construction bills themselves.
Wasn't that the metros stars first stadium plan from 6 years back.
stadium is gorgeous, logo and colors look great, whats not to like? ok, the location sucks, but i wish them the best of luck.
however, miami, montreal, ny, and portland should get theirs first.
Great Crest though
TFC fans would love the away games in Ottawa but it'll never happen. Montreal and Vancouver are a given I believe for expansion as are St. Louis, Miami and (deservedly so) Portland.
Ottawa won't make it with a park in the boonies.
Hmmm concerts with the fans permitted to walk on the field? Come on now, that's no way to keep a field in good condition. Does Melnyk really know what he's doing?
Despite what some commenters want you to believe, this stadium is NOT in the middle of nowhere.
It's in a west-end suburb of Ottawa (population 1,000,000) -- with 90,000 people within a 10 minute drive to the stadium.
Near a major highway, near a planned mass transit expansion, and in an area of the city that's going to have some massive commercial and residential development over the next five years.
And next to a stadium that draws 20,000 people for NHL games -- in the same "remote" location -- 44+ times per year, in the coldest months of winter.
Location of the stadium is hardly an issue !!!!!
Ottawa has no chance. Yes Melnyk has the money, but so do the NY2, Montreal, and Vancouver bids! Also, Ottawa is the fourth-largest media market in canada...way behind Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Too small of a media market

Not enough corporate support

Too small of a city

A crappy location

No MLS.
Hey Melnyk, give the USL a call! Buy the Sounders, or an expansion team.
Hey Marc, MLS doesn't care that you won't take 25 min out of your day to travel to the game. Most of the TFC fans do this every game as they come in from the burbs. If you're the guy that posts on RPB then I find it funny you'll travel to games in Toronto, Chicago, and Columbus but you won't travel down the 417 to support your home team.
the difference is there is public transportation from the burbs to BMO as opposed to Ottawa to Kanata
I lived in Ottawa for years and never had any problems getting around or getting out to Kanata to see a game using public transportation. With the development that has gone on in west end of Ottawa, this is where the stadium needs to be. Everyone said that the Sens would fail out in Kanata, but they seem to be doing fine.
The stadium look similar to the red bulls plans
