Longtime readers of MLSR no doubt were not surprised to hear about the plans for a team playing in New York City and owned by the New York Mets. Indeed as far back as July of 2007 we were keeping are ears open to rumors that the Mets might be behind the effort to fulfill a long held MLS dream of another team in the New York City area. However many who have not kept abreast of developments around the slowly and quietly developing story may have first been introduced to it via the announcement of the Mets's intent on ESPN's MLS Prime Time Thursday match New England Revolution vs CD Chivas USA.
