....For a family emergency. This of course comes just hours after Steve Goff reported a meeting took placed between the Colorado Rapids and Clavijo in which Clavijo thought he was sure to get the sack.
In the days of the old Soviet Union, much was gathered about the secret goings on of organizations behind the Iron Curtain by paying keen attention to timing of travel, "sick" relatives, timing of press releases, "ill" leaders and the like.
Just sayin'

While FC certianly has not gotten performances from his players that he should be getting, part of me honestly hopes that he sticks around. I think a move to the front office would be good, especially if it could happen much like Toronto did earlier. I think there is a better coach out there to get these boys playing well. All the players are there for the Rapids to be a solid team, they just cannot put 2 and 2 together.
First of Colorado needs to get a keeper that can hold on to the ball.
Clavijo has to go and stay gone. In any industry, including sports, success/failure is a reflection of leadership. That FC has a fairly decent roster, far more balanced than LA, and can't get them motivated says a lot.
I'm sure he's a great guy, I'm sure he tried hard and has a good tactical mind. His ability to lead and motivate are seriously in doubt.
RSL (worst to first) anyone?
Nice slanderous comment you neanderthal, no wonder everyone on bigsoccer hates you.
you lose all credibility when you write such insensitive uninformed comments. why don't you just go back to link the rumors instead of adding your nonsense.
As an RSL fan, I have to hope Fernando stays in Colorado. There is a saying in Salt Lake that goes like this, "I Heart Fernando". He gave us Cunningham who then went on to earn the Golden Boot and become the team MVP, he gave us Beckerman who is a stalwart in the midfield. And of course, he can't do much with the team he has, and as our biggest rival, that makes me smile! Long Live Fernando!
"Uraguay"? Are you kidding?
Clavijo's a good guy and was a pretty good player but he's been a poor manager. He had plenty of time both in New England and Colorado and his teams were not only mediocre in results but terribly uninspiring to watch in style.
FC has been dealt some bad cards. Before we got Christian he had bandaids available per $ to spend.
He may not be the best coach in MLS, but he does have great experiance as a player, has got his team to over perform (see Dallas in the play offs) and is a decent guy.
I for one haven't always been happy with his decisions, but respect him as a coach.
I never liked Beckerman much and then as soon as he started to show promise we delt him to RSL. I am still glad everytime we get to beat up on Beckerman and RSL. At least we showed up for that game this season (unlike last year). Hopefully the team shows up again. As for Cunningham, just look at the way he has traveled around the league, there is something there that makes teams not like him much, but I would have liked someone besides Cletus in that trade. As for Clavijo, I think his problem is simply not being able to get consistently good performances. We have had two great games this year that I think had outside motivation. In the playoffs it is easy to have motivation, right now when it comes to the next game, Clavijo just cannot do it. At the same time I respect what he does with his roster, however much input he has in that.
FC has a great eye for talent in a general case, but he does not know how to sign a true striker with a knack for attacking the goal. He is a product of his own successes as a defenseman. He thinks like a defenseman and has always built quality defensive lines, but when your strikers cant keep the ball and the pressure on the other end of the field the losses are inevitable. Colorado needs to find a real coach.
