AUDIO: Toronto Argos Still Could Call BMO Field Home

Posted by MLSR Saturday, August 2, 2008

Back in May we brought you the story about this. Since then there was a protest at the All Star Game. Nevertheless the plans may still be moving forward against MLSE, and Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber's wishes

  2. I've heard that they're thinking of putting a roof over it so that they can host indoor beaver trapping.

  3. Ha ha, very funny, anonymous (if that is your real name)!
Anyway, I keep hearing about new tech that basically allows for football lines to be "erased", with little to no sign they were ever there. If they can get this going in these stadiums, the only downside of playing "throw-ball" would be the distance of the fans. However, when you look at some of the multi-use stadiums being used in Europe, the fans in the endzones are way further back than they would be over here in, say, BMO field if it were expanded for the Argos.
In all honesty, I prefer if the other football stays out of SSS's (the Rogers Centre really is the home of the Argos), but I'm sure they can address many of the issues fans fear if it does come to pass.
Personally, I'm more concerned about TFC's recent fun of form than the Argos moving-in.

  5. fyi - BMO talk starts around 18:00 mins and the host is a dick about the TFC Fans disliking the desecration of their pitch.

  7. I guess that a soccer-specific stadium only pertains to Americans, or perhaps it is OK to share a stadium only if its with a bush-league football team.

    Way to go Canada.

  9. The Argos should've stayed in on this stadium like they were supposed to during the planning stages. It was purposed and a approved originally as a multi-use stadium, but now it is an SSS. I hope it stays that way.

  11. If MLSE didn't want to share BMO maybe they should have paid for the stadium themselves instead of getting corporate welfare, yeah?

  13. Hm, I'd really rather not have BMO turned into a multipurpose stadium, but so far, there's just been a lot of talk, with little action, so I'm not too worried yet.
