Toronto's huge demands made to Chicago in exchange for the rights to former US international striker Brian McBride has left the former Fulhman mans prospects for returning to MLS during this season in Limbo. According to sources within the Chicago front Office, the names of Justin Mapp, Chad Barrett and Chris Rolfe have been brought up by Toronto as compensation. It appears that Chicago is unwilling to break up the nucleous of the team for a productive yet aging veteran. If a deal is not concluded this year, the allocation rankings will undoubtedly change, as they are determined by the clubs record during the season, and Toronto will not have first rights to McBride. Word is McBride may sit out the remainder of the MLS season and concentrate on the Olympics, with the real possibility of joining MLS in 2009.

I understand playing hardball, so this is not a suprise. If Trader Mo won't accept what is being offered for an allocation spot, he will get nothing. Simple. Besides, the fire would have McBride for less than half a season, and with him wanting to play in the Olympics, perhaps less--so I don not see how we (the Fire) are on the short end of anything here.
I am a bit suprised that the league would help out KFC with their acquisition of the rights to Guevara, but not in an instance such as this. McBride's impending return to the MLS FAR outweighs Guevara going anywhere.
Good story here. Toronto is clearly abusing this rile as they hav eno chance of ever signing this player, so they are asking for absurd compensation with a goal of effectively keeping him out of MLS fo rhalf a season. MLS' single entity structure will need to adress this if it wants to advance. This happens all the time where a player leaves a top flight league to only go play for his home side. Not allowing that in MLS is an issue.
Everyone's a winner.
There is absolutely 0 chance that Toronto is going to not end up selling Mcbrides rights to Chicago this year. What is there incentive to hold onto them for the rest of the year? at some point one party is going to give in to the others demands.
Also, it's unfair to say toronto is 'abusing' this policy. if mo thinks mcbride is worth mapp/rolfe/barrett then he is entitled to seek that type of value. Holding out isn't abusing the system at all, its what the system is for
the mls has outgrown this designated player garbage. the system in place now holds the league back. unchain the teams, pay the players what they are worth, and then we can take the next step. mcbride belongs in chicago... now. he aint gettin any younger.
Yea F#ck Toronto
Heres hoping they get stuck with Clint Mathis's allocation and Chicago puts discovery claims on all upcoming Toronto talent.
And you actually believe what the Fire are saying?? The same management that ripped Trader Mo for not having the player's best interests at heart when they themselves are holding Wilman Conde against his will.
Trader Mo has repeatedly stated he is only asking for one player and Chicago only wants to unload garbage. These aren't "ridiculous" trade demands.... Just a Fire GM that wants something for nothing.
Ever notice that the "home side" is always a large, powerful team?
As a bitter Columbus fan, I say "good"
to lose McBride AND get nothing would be a terrible move by Mo. Hopefully, he finally decides to accept something.
Idiot Chicago fans. If Trader Mo does not deal away McBride's rights and he sits for the remainder of the year then he did indeed get something for not using the allocation. By not helping Chicago get a top striker, TFC have given themselves a better opportunity in the standings and in the playoffs. That alone is better than half the crap Chi-ton is likely trying to unload in a deal.
Screw Toronto. Every side in this league has taken one for the team with the only goal being to advance MLS. Now, they waltz in and piggyback in typical Canadians after the Americans have done the heavy lifting.
KFC? thats the best other team's fans have come up with?
HAAAAAAAAAhahahahaha
KFC
wow.
If TFC wants to play games, then fine. Let them play their childish games, and get absolutely NOTHING in return at the end of the season. Well, except for the scorn of all American soccer fans, to whom McBride is a legend.
Lets face it...McBride's rights to TFC only happened because SJ misunderstood what would happen if they signed Peguero Jean Phillippe and he was declared unfit for play. McBride's rights were essentially an unearned freebie for TFC, and they still feel entitled to play hardball. Them getting zip, zilch, nada at the end of the season is poetic justice.
"Screw Toronto. Every side in this league has taken one for the team with the only goal being to advance MLS. Now, they waltz in and piggyback in typical Canadians after the Americans have done the heavy lifting."
LOL @ this american nationalistic making up shit.
Americans are known for piggyback after others have done the heavy lifting. (example, world war 2).
Dont think it works quite like that if im not mistaken. We have his rights for an amount of years. Whether we sign him or not is a different issue.
Glad to see that nationalism has showed its nasty face here. Thanks for all the 'heavy lifting' USA.
Just in case I missed something, why is it that we should just give Chicago, an opponent in our conference a highly rated striker for nothing?
Easy on the rhetoric kids. This has nothing to do with America vs. Canada.
It's just a stupid topic some people brought up. How is this any different than when DCU taxed the hell out of the rapids for Gomes's rights?
I'm a TFC (KFC) fan but i'll be the first to admit these rules are incredibly dumb. MLS needs to end this allocation and discovery bullshit.
Mo's just waiting until after this weekend so Toronto doesn't have to play against McBride.
MLS should look at the way these "rights" are created. Perhaps they should just open up the market, if someone wants to play somewhere and the team has the money and room under the salary cap then let the team buy them.
The MLS rules are just crappy.
people this is supposed to be profesional sports, not house league soccer. Trades are part of the game and business, you dont get something for nothing....and KFC? thats horrible, not only does it not ryhm it doesnt even make sense. you guys honestly cant come up with anything better? shitcago, KKKrew, shit-bulls are just a few examples of good ones that make sense and work.... KFC? thats just horrible, back to the drawing board for you guys.
LOL!!! Mapp, Rolfe, and Barrett??? A little greedy aren't we??? For a team that's not even supposed to have the rights to a player that's been around 12 more years than the actual club. What a joke...
tired of people commenting when they do not understand what is going on. First of all american teams did give up stuff to gain, because only 5 owners owned the whole league, so they helped by trading to another team they owned. Second, Mcbride cannot play until the 15th of july, so this has nothing to do with waiting until after the tfc vs chicago game.
This is about Mo striking out on his original plans for stricker in huckerby, dichkov, and the other guy from newcastle. So now mo is trying to save face by getting something reasonable from chicago, which is in his ights and save face. It isnot his fault that the league rules are shit and he got this gift on his lap, he should try and get the best deal possible to help his club. Mls does not pay him, mlse does, terefore his job is to put the best team on the pitch or get as high in standings as he can, i.e. winning or stop chicago from winning.
Nortonboy-
Looks like your idea that Mo is desperately trying to rinse chicago cuz his options failed looks like its a bit off. See todays post.
Dudes working and will pull us someone good. Not sweating it up here at all.
