From Soccer Insider:
The Blanco Situation and Other Tidbits
You all have been asking for more specifics on what exactly happened in last night's game with Blanco. Here's what I can tell you.
In addition to his on-field conduct, which according to D.C. United defender Marc Burch included both punching and eye-gouging D.C. midfielder Clyde Simms, Blanco also allegedly head-butted a D.C. United operations employee as he was being escorted off the field, according to sources.
Here is D.C. United's comment on the situation: "As a result of incidents last night, Major League Soccer has requested video footage, which we are preparing and will be sending to the league," United spokesman Doug Hicks said. Hicks said MLS will have the video today."
Here is a video of Blanco punching at DC United midfielder Clyde Simms which Marc Burch Commented on, at Behind The Badge.
D.C. United Defender Marc BurchOn the incident with Cuauhtemoc BlancoBlanco came over and swung as hard as he could and hit Clyde [Simms] in the stomach. You know I’m sick of that, throwing elbows at [Gonzalo] Peralta. I bumped shoulders with him and he threw an elbow at me and kicked me so I was just sick of him. He gets away with a lot of stuff because he’s Blanco and he’s from Mexico and he’s a big name. but he can’t do that stuff to any of my teammates.

Just a note, it's not Goff, but Paul Tenorio who is filling in for him while he is on vacation. I hope that United has more footage then what is shown on the highlights from last night because MLS won't care at all about that. USSF might suspend Blanco from next year's US Open Cup, which I'm sure wouldn't break Blanco's heart. IF Blanco did assualt a DC United employee, then MLS has to do something.
Actually, Paul Tenorio reported this. He is manning Goff's blog this week while Goff is on vacation.
Blanco is a bum....
I'm seriously just surprised this didn't happen till now. We all knew this was coming based on how he's played for the past 10 years, with the National team etc. This is Blanco. What's even more surprising is that it came out in an Open Cup Quarterfinals. It seems Blanco has brought his "passion/anger" to games that most American's haven't payed any attention to. Maybe it will up some of the interest in the Cup.
The behavior should be punished, but we shouldn't be surprised to see the same stuff happen again. The more a game means the more likely it's going to come out. If Chicago end up in the playoffs who would be surprised to see him get sent off?
I was there. It happened as described and if MLS tries to sweep this under the rug then good luck, too many people saw it.
I wish we could have seen this game on ESPN. Thanks US SOCCER and Sunil Gulati for placing more importance on the National Futsal Team than shopping the TV rights to the Lamar Hunt Open Cup.
It's because he's from Mexico?
Looks like the MLS cover-up is in full gear. The video you linked to is no longer available:
"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Major League Soccer, LLC"
Well done MLS.
^ Exactly what i thought.
They let 90% of things go, but they take this down. I think it's foolish. Like it or not, controversy sells.
They have to quit going for this everybody sits nicely at the park and eats their hot dog idea.
anyone have a new link to vid?
HI MR. HUNTCHBACK I am ANSIL ELCOCK I BROKE YOUR LEG PREPARE TO DIE
interesting... video unavailable because of an MLS copyright claim? It wasn't even an MLS event, it was the USSF-sanctioned US Open Cup.
If MLS doesn't come down hard on Blanco, I will have officially lost ANY respect for the league.
You have clear video of the guy taking a swing, let alone the other actions that weren't caught on film.
Deal with it or prepare for the most brutal tackles the MLS that you've seen in your life for the next 3 months.
someone needs to give blanco a reason to go down. stick the $#!+ out of him. does anyone know if clyde decked him or did blanco just play dead after c simms chest hit blancos fist?
