A few weeks ago, MLS Rumors reported on a protest by members of the Midnight Riders, the Revolution's Independent Supporters Group, over what they considered to be ill-treatment by members of the Revolution Front Office. Things have only gotten worse, as an incidentoccured during the Revolution's 1-0 win over Pachuca.
During a corner kick, Revolution Player Pat Phelan was briefly knocked unconscious after a scary head to head collision with another Revolution Player. While team trainers and EMT's attended the fallen Revolution player, the members of the Fort (the Supporters Section behind the goal at the lighthouse end), started a chant in support of their player.
Now, Mexican fans in the corner of the field, not knowing the severity of Phelan's injury, started to jeer, whistle, and mock the fallen player (for what they thought was time wasting). The Revolution Supporters took umbrage with the show of disrespect to Phelan, and while some middle fingers were shown to the Mexican fans, nothing else could happen (there's no connection between the Revs Supporters Section and the section of the stands where the Mexican fans were.) However, this was enough for TeamOps security to swarm the section, and start dragging people out of the supporters section, and not only ejected them, but detained them for several hours after the game.
The reason that was given to Midnight Rider leadership was that the people had given PHELAN the middle finger. This makes absolutely no sense at all. While TeamOps was busy trying to "subdue those dangerous hooligans" behind the goal, the Revolution converted a PK for the only goal of the game. The Mexican fans then started throwing several beers at the celebrating Revs fans and players.

Looks like the story got posted twice.
The problem with security at Revs games is two fold:
A)that the guy who took over Gilette Stadium security used to be the head security guy at Wembley, so he automatically has the view point that active fans are hooligans.
B) They're so eager to crack down on Rev fans, that other teams fans basically get the free ride. In this case, yes the Mexican fans were given the bird for jeering a severely hurt player, but then TeamOps security didn't respond to cups of beers being thrown at Revs players and fans after the Revs scored the winning goal.
Double standard, plain and simple.
I follow the page regularly and I know you guys like to post this stuff, but I was just thinking about how many fights I see breaking out all around me at any yankee game Ive ever gone to and it makes me think that it is no different and not worth to much concern, just drunk idiots. You can find them anywhere from a game to the local bar
Wow, I can only imagine how different this article would be if this had happened at a crew game and not a revolution game. Sad that there is such an obvious bias.
I know this is a "rumor" site, but is it really necessary to have a caption that reads: "Cup of mysterious yellow liquid hurled at Revs players by Pachuca Fans after the game."?
It's called an f'ing beer for christ sake.
There was definitely no fighting going on at the game. All that happened was two groups of fans yelling and making gestures at each other sparked by the Mexican fans jeering at Phelan on the ground. Security overreacted over the Revs fans defending their player much like MLS Rumors is towards the situation.
Having been to Gillette countless times, (soccer, American football, concerts), I can tell you that security there is generally WAY over the top. If the law allowed, they would much prefer to take out your larynx and cut off your arms when you enter through the gates.
It seems to happen all the time at RFK. When we play mexican team, its the UNITED supports who get tossed for the mexicans throwing beer bottles and stuff at us. I am not sure what it takes to become part of stadium security, but Im sure a brain is not a requirement. MExicans can throw beer, piss, anything and still remain in the stadium. But United fans curse back or jump and sing louder and its us who get taken out. This is crap, but it happens all the time. Some remarks from security have been "WELL you GUYS PROvoke them" WE provke them to BOO and JEER our national anthem so that gives them the right to throw stuff at us? IN fact even STephen ZAck from DC UNITED has said that well you guys provoke them. Salvotore the veteran drummer from UNited goes around the stadium drumming UNITED beats, and he gets manhandled, punched, cursed at everything. BUT SEcurity thinks its ok, if it was him doing the punching he would get kicked out of the stadium in a heartbeat. I HOPE SOMEONE WOULD BRING THIS TO THE TEAMS FRONT OFFICE. DOES this happen at other stadiums? I can tell you for a fact that it happens at every MExican game and some games back in the day when we traded ARCE.
THIS would be great to investigate?
Does MLS tell security to go easy on mexicans so they can come back to the stadium? How can they tell there mexican, I am sure not a mexican but I am hispanic. Must you wear mexican colors to get the fair treatment?
I do want to point out that there are a number of mexicans who get arrested for being idiots, but what about the hundreds who sit near our section who at worst get looked at wrong?
I was three rows behind the kid who was initially kicked out for giving the finger to our own player. This did not happen. Security once again at Gillette got high on themselves and did not see the real issue. These people are oblivious to anything that goes on. Stadium security are doing an excellent job at alienating the fans and letting the true hooligans get away with whatever they want.
I had never been to a revs game, until I worked one for TeamOps- you guys get away with murder compared to other events. Not a bad thing, and having seen what a good time the Fort crew had during the game, I would love to attend as a fan.
