Here is an excerpt:

Chicago Fire star Cuauhtemoc Blanco has been suspended from U.S. Open Cup play for at least two years for his conduct during a quarterfinal game against D.C. United on July 8, a U.S. Soccer Federation panel ruled.

The panel listened to testimony from the three game officials, United employees and Blanco.

At age 35, Blanco will probably never play in the Open Cup again. (Somehow, I don't think he's heartbroken, though it is a blemish on his portfolio.) The question now is whether MLS will decide to review the incident as well. The league planned to wait for the USSF ruling before considering its own investigation.

Blanco was red-carded in overtime for his involvement in a scuffle with United players at Maryland SoccerPlex. D.C.'s Marc Burch was also ejected. Later, after declining to leave the field in a timely manner, Blanco allegedly headbutted a United operations official.

The USSF's five-member adjudication and discipline panel reviewed the incident this week. The game was not televised, but video taken on the sideline by a United film crew was provided to the panel.

  2. Further proof the MLS hates Columbus. Lehnart shoves Erpen and gets a four game ban while the hunch back of chi... I mean Blanco punched a player and a security staff member and the MLS has to "look into it further" before they punish him. I don't care that it was an Open Cup game, he was representing the MLS and he deserves at least the same ban in league play. Whether it is GBS being snubbed from the all-star game or Noonan not being allowed to join the crew for no real reason, other teams will always get the better treatment. As a crew fan I love it. Just makes winning all the more pleasurable.

  4. Who can blame anyone for hating Columbus. There are many citys way more desrving of a MLS franchise.

6 games isnt enough? especailly when no one from DC was suspended.

If anyhting it shows the league hates Cuah as they refuse to protect him and he gets hacked to the point where he just explodes. Now thats what everyone does. Cant beat him on the pitch so lets hack him until he gets disciplined out.

No wonder no real stars want to come to MLS to get hacked.

  8. I love how the columbus fans approach on supporting their team. Just pretend everyone hates them and is ganging up on them so when they are losing it's everyone else's fault and when they are winning they are just beating the odds.

I think they deserve the nickname of Columbus "Wahh-Me" Crew.

  10. This man is a plague to the league. Ship him out of here.

No one from DC was suspended because no one from DC did anything as bad as Blanco. The only case would be for Burch to get a game or two because he punched Blanco, but he was sticking up for his teammate, so suck it up you stupid Fire supporters. Your best player is a little bitch who dives all over the field.

  12. GUY'S THIS IS A GOOD THING WHRE LOOKING AT THIS WRONG, I THINK THEY SHOULD DO WHATS RIGHT FOR THE SPORT AND FOR THE FANS, BUT IF THEY DO, THEY SHOULD DO THE SAME THING TO ALL THE PLAYERS IN THE FUTURE. I LOVE SOCCER IT'S IN MY DAD'S BLOOD, MY UNCLES AND MY WHOLE FAMILY (CLUB AMERICA FANS) AND SOMETIMES IT'S REALLY UNFAIR WITH THE CALLS AND ALL THE BULLSHIT THAT GOES ON WITH THE PLAYERS FIGHTING, SPITTING HITTING EACH OTHER AND THIS GOES TO THE REFFERES TO, I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE SOME OTHER KIND OF NEW TRAINNIG & TESTINGS. 0R MAYBE WE NEED TO HAVE INSTANT REPLAY LIKE A CHALLENGE LIKE FOOTBALL AND NOW BASEBALL, FOR EXAMPLE DID YOU GUYS SE THE GAME AGAINST PACHUCA AND DYNAMO? PACHUCA HAD MADE A CLEAN GOAL BUT THE REFFERE CALLED ITS OFF-SIDES AND ALSO THE GAME AGAINS PACHUCA AND NE REVOLOTION ONE OF THE PACHUCAS PLAYERS WAS CALLED FOR A HAND INSIDE THE BOX WHEN HE WAS COVERING HIS CHEST AND BALL HIT IS HAND. ALL I'M SAYING IS I LOVE THE FACT THAT MLS IS GROWING AND THERE EVENTS LIKE SUPERLIGA THAT INVOLVES THE MEXICAN TEAMS AND US TEAMS TO PLAY AND IT'S JUST ANOTHER EXCUSE FOR ME TO HANG OUT WITH MY FAMILY AND ENJOY THE RIVALRY BETWEEN MEXICO AND US
