INCOMING: Nolberto Solano to LA Galaxy?

The first news of Monday Transfer Madness comes to us courtesy of an anonymous MLSR reader.

It appears the Peruvian midfielder and West Ham player that turned down Toronto FC over concerns about its artificial pitch is going to sign with the LA Galaxy.

According to this article:

"Luego de diez temporadas en la Liga Premier, el volante peruano dejaría el fútbol de Inglaterra para dar el salto a Estados Unidos y jugar en la MLS

Por estos días Nolberto Solano goza del verano norteamericano, quizá para ir entrando en ambiente, ya que en las próximas semanas Estados Unidos podría convertirse en el nuevo país de residencia del volante peruano si es que se llega a concretar su fichaje por Los Ángeles Galaxy de la Major League Soccer (MLS)."

Google Translation:

"After ten seasons in the Premier League, the wheel of Peruvian football in England will make the jump to the United States and play in MLS

For these days Nolberto Solano enjoys the American summer, perhaps to go into the atmosphere, because in the coming weeks the United States could become the new country of residence of the Peruvian steering wheel if you come to realize that their signing by Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer (MLS)."

Should be very interesting to see if Nolberto will be on the West Ham squad during the MLS All Star Game.

Here is video of Solano in action:

Two Problems.

One- Solano was released by West Ham.

Second- How can Galaxy get so many good players? Assuming he becomes a designated player, that would be the Galaxy's fourth designated player. They would have to get rid of Carlos Ruiz. That will leave the striker position a little vulnerable especially if someone is injuried.

They're looking to get rid of Ruiz anyway, i believe that he requested to be traded as well.

The Galaxy only have one DP. Ruiz and Donovan are exempt from the rule until their current contracts expire. I like Solano, but I don't see that he is DP worthy anyway. He wouldn't be cheap however, and I don't see that they could fit him under the cap without moving Ruiz.

Given Buddle's extraordinary discovery of form, Ruiz is completely expendable. The Galaxy have strong forwards with Landon and Edson. They badly need quality midfield players. Hence Solano makes perfect sense. So much sense that I won't believe this until I see him on the field for LA.

LISTEN TO ME VERY CAREFULLY - "Played in Europe" does not equal "DP".

If Nolberto Solano is anything near a DP level player, then why isn't San Jose using a DP on Huckerby? How does Toronto have Rohan Rickets, Amado Guevara and Laurent Robert?

"The Galaxy only have one DP. Ruiz and Donovan are exempt from the rule until their current contracts expire." I thought that was common knowledge. LA should be shopping Ruiz and filling the holes in MF and in the back. Ruiz has a monster contract for a sub, dumb him off on a team that needs goals.

Just as the first 'Anon' said, Nobby was released by the Irons, and therefore will definitely will not be playing against the MLS allstars.

He's for sure past his prime, but has such a smooth touch on the ball still, along with much else to offer that he should be picked up. Galaxatives already have a similarly styled player with Becks, so I don't see the fit as well.

I'd love to see him end up with RSL. His experience and leadership would help that side, and most importantly he be just the guy to drop in the pin-point passes to Deuchar upfront, so RSL can finally get Dr. Goals living up to his name.
