People take note, never count out Miami.
Miami Ultras rejoice, just when it looked like Miami was as good as dead as an expansion candidate it is thrown a lifeline.
Remember way back when we told you that David Beckham had the option to buy a club and speculated he would buy one in New York or Miami rather than add a 3rd one to Southern California?
Well it now appears that, according to this report, Beckham has been looking into the possibility of becoming the owner/investor of a Miami based MLS Club.
Here is an excerpt:
"Becks has an option to buy a US club as part of his £127m contract to join LA Galaxy, which ends in 2011.
Becks, 34, and his manager, music mogul Simon Fuller, 48, have been researching various opportunities - including setting up a new team in New York, where there is now just one.
But the pair are now concentrating their efforts on Miami - one of the few big American cities not to have a Major League team.
A source said: "Beckham does not want to go into management when his playing career ends and is now focused on owning a club. Simon Fuller is a clever man and believes there is a lot of money to be made as football continues to expand in the US.
"They have concluded Miami is ripe for a new team and stadium. There is a big Latino population who love their football and there is also a large expatriate British community.
"Plus, it is a great place to live - very sunny and on the coast. They are now starting to look for the right financial partners and sponsors."
Major League Soccer bosses are expanding the league each year as the sport becomes more popular."
And then remember there is always this..

Great to here that Miami is still in the race.
Big Mistake.
I'm told another investment group with big $$$$$ is interested in Miami. Or could it be the same one? That's why I posted a few weeks back when you guys posted Miami is dead, I said "no it's not." You guys have typically been on the money but have been lost on the Miami front. The is a buzz of multiple groups and activity related to Miami and some includes the current USL team pulling a Sounders like move.
Stay tuned.
Lets see...no real contact with the city...an largely apathetic fan base up to this point...no other investors...no "soccer specific stadium" in planning...yep Miami is obviously next in line!!!
I don't buy it till I hear Garber say no to Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, St. Louis, and probably even NY2! Rediculous to think that in an area where people simply don't support their teams that a soccer team in that city would work out...
Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, St. Louis = all places no one wants to visit, including the Don
WOO HOO!!! this just made my day down here! miami over portland is a no-brainer. south florida is one of the largest markets in the country... portland isnt even close... and mls already went to seattle.
im not saying i dont want a team in portland... every expansion contender deserves a team. but if it comes down to my city or portland, well, you guys can wait a little longer!
Great news for Miami I am not from Miami but i think is great for them. All you people that talk bad about miami are Sour Grape! ... You know, I honestly think that some of these people just don’t understand that Miami is great for an MLS team.
Miami does have a soccer specific stadium in planning. The city is waiting on the investors. Miami also has the FIU option until the stadium is built.
We're talking about a metropolitan area with 5 + million people and a huge ethnic fan base. This time the team will play in Miami not 30 miles away and this time the team will be marketed to Latinos not to ex-pats and soccer moms.
Any place that can get 20k for a Honduras-Columbia friendly is a ripe place for expansion, unless of course you want a lily white, soccer mom driven league. If you do, St Louis is a natural!
Beckham should put a team in Halifax, Nova Scotia instead.
Miami is the "northernmost South American city". It is only natural they have a team in MLS. It is the gateway to South America.
I feel reborn !!! wooohooo!!
I feel reborn... Woooohooo!!
I feel reborn !!! wooohooo!!
Miami is back on the clock. Good for Miami. Miami supporters The Ultras should be excited that Miami still is in the race.
I would think that someone as glamorous as Beckham would like to establish a team in the sophisticated metric monarchy to the north. And why wouldn't he? Everything is just so hip and progressive up there.
MLS in Miami. Yes we want MLS in Miami.
Love to see Miami get a team. I hope it will be the Miami Fusion.
I'm ready for a Miami team! If Becks is behind it then I'm sure people will be onboard. I hope Traffic is involved, they have done so much with Miami FC that it would be a shame for them to not be included. Go Miami!
YES TRAFFIC SPORTS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM GO TO MLS. GO MIAMI IT TIME TO SEE MLS IN MIAMI FL.
MLS DO YOU HEAR US IN MIAMI WE WANT TO SEE MLS IN MIAMI.
Super good news to hear Miami is on the radar. They need a team in Miami. It would be great to see Miami Fusion back in Miami were it belong.
MIAMI IS S CITY THAT MLS WANT TO BE. WE WANT TO SEE MIAMI FUSION BACK. THIS TIME IN MIAMI WERE IT NEEDS TO BE.
I JUST GOT BACK IN TOWN.GREAT NEWS FOR MIAMI
