EXPANSION: New York City and MLS Moving On NYC Expansion

Posted by MLSR Friday, June 13, 2008

According to this rumor, New York expansion supporters club, the Borough Boys had a sit down session with major players within the Bloomberg Administration at City hall similar to the ones another supporters group, Sons Of Ben had with the local and state officials prior to Philadelphia becoming an official expansion club.

They apparently learned many things from this meeting and know that New York City and MLS are both in talks with investors about bringing a team to the City. If you know more, or were present at said meeting, please pass it on to us.

If you are in New York City and interested in attending a meeting tomorrow where the Borough Boys promise to reveal more, then email them here.

An interesting video someone sent to us on YouTube.

  2. As much as I love the thought of a second team in the NY area, it doesn't bode well for the level of fan dedication the club will have if the supporters club is based the fact that they can't be bothered to cross a river to support the existing area team.

  4. Not only that, but we all know that NYC and Queens in particular are not cosmopolitan enough.

  8. trust me... getting to the meadowlands is a bitch to get to. outside of the jets/giants, no team ever did great in attendance numbers in the swamp. even the devils and nets in their heyday never pulled in more than 13,000 at the continetnal/izod arena. also, not everybody has a car in nyc. if i had the choice of taking the 7 train to get to shea, or going to port authority to take a bus to the meadowlands, what would you choose?

  10. im sorry - did someone say Queens in particular is not cosmopolitan enough- The definition of Cosmopolitan is "having constitute elements from all over the world" - For that, Queens is the most divers county in the City if not the country, so please, know queens before you make that statement.

  12. New York, being what it is, should consider getting a small, boxy, no-parking lot, middle of the city stadium. It would be a ballsy move, and would require sheer brilliance to pull off, but if it were done (either for NYCFC or RBNY) it could be one of the best moves in MLS history.

  20. NYC2 is closer than many of you think and closer than many of the haters would like to acknowledge. I would be waiting for an announcement around november right after the MLS CUP! Cheers to all the haters!!!
