David Nakamura in the Washington Post is reporting that DC's city council is working on a plan to fund DC United $150 Million dollar Poplar Point Stadium.
As we have been reporting for some time even when others were saying the plan was dead, it appears to be closer than ever.

A coalition of D.C. Council members is drafting legislation that would authorize Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to spend $150 million in public money to subsidize construction of a soccer stadium for D.C. United in Southeast Washington, city government sources said.
Also click here for the following on DC's WUSA Channel 9 which indicates that there may be a press conference later this week:
DC government sources tell me that City Council members are prepared to introduce and vote on a bill next Tuesday that would bring a new soccer stadium to the Poplar Point development in Southeast DC, across the Anacostia River from the National's new ballpark.
Details of the bill are still being worked out; but sources say the measure would see developer Victor Macfarlane own the stadium. One Councilman under questioning from this reporter said Macfarlane would be expected to build much of the stadium with his own financing.
The DC government would put up funding for the infrastructure and other costs. Macfarlane owns DC United soccer team and the new stadium would become their new home, replacing RFK.
The Council bill is being pushed by Ward eight Councilman Marion Barry who would only say by phone late today that "I have been committed to fully developing Poplar Point with a Soccer stadium included from the beginning.
My sources say Council Chairman Vincent Gray, Councilman Jack Evans and Yvette Alexander are also sponsors of the Soccer stadium bill.
Mayor Adrian Fenty had awarded the Poplar Point development project to Clark Realty; but left open the door for completing a separate deal with Macfarland for a soccer stadium.
Council members say a press conference could be coming later this week.
That part in bold is remniscient of one of our rumors from last October:
An excerpt:
"....Basically this source is stating that the stadium at Poplar Point will be built and is going forward but according to a source within DC Mayor Fenty's office, the appearance of an open process is more important than the speed of a decision on going forward."
