Time for some Canadian Content.
Toronto FC fans have taken pride in their bare-bones soccer specific stadium and European-like atmosphere and have been very vocal in telling long time fans of the league that Toronto, and Canada were different than the cities south of the border in that it respected the sport more.
However, one has to wonder just how true that is when there are serious discussions underway to bring the scourge of gridiron markings on a soccer pitch to Toronto. This was supposed to be a city much different from American cities.
If the following report is true then it looks like the North American sports reality may have hit the European dream squarely in the ankle in a late sliding tackle from behind.
This comes to us from a Canadian source:
Hey guys, I just though I'd let you know that there may be a major fan protest against a plan to bring CFL Football to BMO Field. The Toronto Argonauts want to move in.So we did a little investigating and found the following when we contacted Toronto FC:
The Toronto Argos, a Canadian Football League team have proposed to expand BMO Field if they moved in, in a $40-50 Million Canadian Dollar plan which would add a partial roof and up to 10,000 seats. This seems similar to the plan we were told about last year. The seats behind each goal would be made mobile so as to accommodate the larger CFL field and then moved back for Toronto FC matches.
Here is audio of the CFL Commissioner talking about the possibility of playing games at BMO Field including playing a pre-season game there next year.
What remains unclear is whether there would be the scourge of football lines on the pitch during Toronto FC games as we have seen with MLS teams playing in NFL or college football stadia.
It is interesting that a team in the CFL, a much older more established league is asking to use what essentially is an MLS stadium to play their games in. Who would control scheduling in such a situation when the stadium does not belong to Toronto FC but the city of Toronto?
We were all led to believe Toronto was somehow different, more "European"and a "true football paradise" even ESPN bought the myth, but in reality Toronto is no different fromany other city in North America.
If you took out the word Toronto you could substitute any other city for the sentiments expressed on this forum.
What do you think? A step forward for Toronto FC and MLS or two steps back?

Ahahahahahahahahahahha
That is hilarious!
I hope it goes through, that's just to funny. All those high and mighty fans of Terrible FC will have to look at those oh so awful lines on their plastic pitch
NOOOOOOOO! The Buffalo Bills will be playing 5 of their home games at the Rogers Center soon anyway. Maybe the Bills and the Argonauts can be co-tenants somewhere else?
ive talked with my fellow torontonians and expect a protest soon
lol american football
If this is true, expect protests
I see this as the first of many fights that our supporters will have with ownership over the coming years. MLSE has a track record with the Maple Leafs. They don't make decisions in the interest of the fans. That is for sure.
Onefifteener.
Move TFC!
HA HA, This is just too funny!
Thru-out the decades soccer has been bashed & ridiculed by the CFL, baseball & hockey faithful... and if that wasn't enough, now they want to enter you own house AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!
I can't wait to see this happen!
Never I'm from TO and that will never happen as long as TFC is around. wedon't want an amateur team playing in our building. As for the other responding TFC is not terrible were in a playoff position so I wouln't talk. Secondly TFC aren't going anywhere so suck on that for awhile.
thats bullshit. im a chicago fan but that is definatly more than two steps back for mls. better not go through, thats no way to treat some of the best fans in mls, to be disgraced by american football
ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL
I would normally be against this, but if anyone deserves this it's those pricks in Toronto.
Always criticizing NY for not supporting its team. Wait until they average 10K with football lines.
This. Will. Not. Happen.
Toronto FC's position in the city and in the market is far too precarious to risk making this deal. If they alienate the fans that pretty much make them what they are, they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
If you jealous pricks who think this will be funny and hate TFC supporters think this is somehow a good thing, look beyond the edge of your own narrowmindedness...this is taking MLS in exactly the opposite direction of where it should go.
you guys in Canada good luck with your fight .
If there's anything we in the US can do to help out please let us know.
This is a fight for a greater cause,
that of soccer.
we're all one
Wow, good thing youre not fanning the fire MLSRUMORS. You truly are a bunch of jackasses. Its rare that i (let alone anyone) walks away with any insight from the bigsoccer board but you seem to have created an exception. Sad sad miserable lot you are. Im expecting a pithy reply in which youll defend your right to print rumors etc. Youre obviously free to do so. Please note however you really are an MLS tabloid. I bet you just wet yourself reading that last sentence didnt you.
Christ, i just realized i just gave you and the topic more attention then it deserves. Its not going to happen.
Dont i feel the twat.
Youre still not tabloid level.

its just a bunch of rumor bs the argos have been looking to get the fuck out of the dome since they got there, think about it a cfl team trying to fill a 60000 capacity arena
its the same god damn bs as when they said they want to play at varsity stadium dont buy into this argos at bmo rumor like i said its just the argos looking for a new place to play
jeez they were going to build a stadium 2 years ago wtf happened there
and to whoever called tfc terrible lets see when tfc win concacaf champions league, super liga and the mls cup! all i have to say is enjoy us demolish all your presious "soccer" teams while the american announcers continue to call a win 2 points
Someone forget to tell them that it's your house. Either that or they just don't care.
I like to make 3 points here:
1. It is going to cost $50-70 millions to expand BMO field and make it Canadian football friendly stadium, which Argos and City of Toronto don't have the money to spend to do so.
2. Micheal "Pinball" Clemons (Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Argonauts and fan favourite) said the Argos aren't interested playing in BMO field.
3. CFL Commissioner and CFL in general don't have the power to force the argos and CFL into BMO field. MLSE (owners of TFC) in another hand are very powerful in Toronto. They have enough power not to let the Argos come to BMO field and destroy the Argos in Toronto if they want to.
Just because TFC is the best in MLS doesn't mean you American fascists can make fun of Canada. OH no not socialism. Why don't you try fixing your health care nocannucks. Your a complete and utter faggot American pig bastard. Just come to BMO field and we'll deal with the likes of you in due time. Come down and make your beliefe known in the greatest city on earth, you cocksucker
Wooaah, calm down dude!
I don't think anyone is being anti-Canadian here.. except maybe for "nocunnucks", and most likely he is either drunk or probably confusing "team rivalry" with nationalism.
Fix our healthcare? Why dont you try to invent your own drugs, oh wait, Canadians and Canadians are stupid as hell. Nice try.
We have our own drugs retard, and plus your MLS teams suck. TFC is the best in MLS.
Be constructive, guys. MLS should be the important aspect we're talking about here. I hope TFC can hold on to the stadium. Their fans rule and their stadium is a jewel for the league. BTW, I'm not a TFC fan and I'm not Canadian. I'm just an MLS fan that loves futbol in all aspects. I got some nice commentary on my site: usfutbol.bolgspot.com
good point robert. Instead of fighting each-other do the sport a favor and shoot an e-mail to those lame tv-executives in San Diego( check the latest post ).
We're in big numbers and just need to get together
Sorry, WHO invented insulin so all you fat fuck American ass hats can continue to get type 2 diabetes from your fucking atrocious diets????
