SPONSORS: Microsoft XBOX360 to Sponsor Seattle Sounders FC

Posted by MLSR Wednesday, May 28, 2008

It's funny how rumors work. Often they are way off the mark other times they are 100% true but most exist in a sort of a grey area between absolute truth and total fiction.

For instance, the leaked photo of the Sounders uniform is likely totally true however the sponsor one of our sources suspected was Jones Soda turns out not to be.

And here today in the Wall Street Journal is official confirmation of another rumored sponsor, which sat in that grey area, Microsoft XBOX360. If you recall this post we made in march which featured the leaked mockup of a Seattle MLS kit that had been circulating online for some time and which looked semi-official (pictured above) then you'd know there was a buzz on that Seattle's sponsor would in fact be the video game console.

So we will now do a mashup of two leaked photos, the official Sounders kit with pixelated sponsor which we now know is XBOX360 Live and the XBOX360 Seattle FC jersey. Of course when the kits are official unveiled in a few hours we will try to post them here. And of course they will probably look nothing like this. Which is why we are a rumors site, not a news site.

EDIT (1:06 pm PT): Here is what was officially released today:

  2. First time I saw the mock-ups, I thought they looked really good. I'm a big TFC fan, but I may get one of these just because I'm a 360 fan. Very nice!

  8. Now they just need the "Red Ring of Death" around the midfield circle and we'll be set!

  9. Rock! I'm not a huge fan of XBOX, but having a national brand behind the club is awesome! What's the Galaxy's sponsor again? Hoobawhat?

Microsoft paid $4million for the rights, which is awesome! The jersey sponsor alone covers the entire salary, save the DP. That's great for a team with only Sebastian La Toux so far.
