Please indulge us some, pie-in-the-sky,"you pulled that out of thin air" speculation for a moment.
Think about this:
Ivan Gazidis,
MLS's Deputy Commissioner went down to Argentina last week and is reportedly still there...
He is very keen on Argentina... Supposedly he was just taking in a Copa Libertadores match.
May 1. Steve Goff at the Washington post reports DC United talent director/scout Dave Kasper also went down to Argentina. Like Gazidis he is also taking in a match.
"*DCU General Manager Dave Kasper departed for Argentina yesterday to meet with his club and player contacts. I seem to remember United picking up a few players in South America over the winter. ;-) He is planning to attend Sunday's Boca-River superclasico. Begin wild speculation at your earliest convenience."
May 2. Steve Goff at the Washington Post reports that now DC United President and General Manager, Kevin Payne is preparing to join Kasper and he is also going to watch River-Boca...."I hear that D.C. United President Kevin Payne will join GM Dave Kasper in Argentina this weekend for the superclasico. Intriguing, no? Maybe a formal relationship with Boca? Are the Juan Sebastian Veron talks back on? How about a Martin Palermo signing after Luciano Emilio is transferred to a Central American club this summer? Just more baseless speculation."DC United is never shy about changing something when it's not working. Could United being off to a slow start this season, coupled with Ben Olsen's injury, be enough for United to pull the trigger on another player signing? They still have that 2nd Designated Player slot which they received from Colorado in a trade for the rights to Christian Gomez.
Usually when both Payne and Kasper are in a foreign country its to look at/sign a player. During the Juan Sebastian Veron saga both were supposedly in Argentina along with an MLS official (who went unnamed).
What do you think is going on? Are Gazidis and United's trip to Argentina related or coincidence? Who do you think they should sign?

i like all the moves they made for south american players but i think they should wait until summer to sign a better european player.
Mr. Juan Roman Riquelme
im going with riquelme
Riquelme is starting and in too good of form to be convinced to leave Argentina, unless DC takes the money from VW and immediately throws it at him. As a DC supporter, I don't see us jumping to take Riquelme or Veron. Gallardo has been excellent. Great vision and skill. Simms has looked great backing him up in the center midfield. United need a striker, since Emilio is proving to be worthless and Jamie's getting old. Maybe they return with an accomplished goal scorer who plays up front?
who needs another foward when you can have this.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=FUJhkEot23U

These guys are clowns. Why would you turnover your roster when you had the best record in the league last year...
