Many Galaxy fans hearts must have stopped for a moment when FC Dallas defender Adrian Serioux came flying in with a heavy challenge on one David Beckham during Sunday's match between LA Galaxy and FC Dallas after what teammates describe as Beckham's persistent taunting. The match resulted in a 5-1 drubbing of Dallas and the sacking of FC Dallas manager Steve Morrow who has been linked with a return to manage in England. Could Serioux's (a man Morrow brought in reportedly as an enforcer) actions also responsible for Morrow being fired?
Looking back on a report in The Sun (UK) a year ago:MLS is Serioux
EXCLUSIVE by STEVE BRENNER
DAVID BECKHAM has been warned to expect a kicking in the US this summer.
Former Millwall defender, now FC Dallas enforcer, Adrian Serioux says if Becks thinks playing for LA Galaxy will be a walk in the park, he is dead wrong.
Serioux, who will come face to face with the former England skipper on July 31, said: “His salary and lifestyle has a lot of players thinking, "We’ve dedicated our lives to the game and will have nothing to retire on"’.
"He’s great for MLS but me and a few others are going after him, he’s made us feel unappreciated.
“If Beckham can’t handle it, he can play ping-pong or tennis.
“There’ll be no line to cross with him, I don’t have a line. If he’s on the ball, he’s there to be hit hard.
“Coach Steve Morrow brought me in as an enforcer. I don’t take any nonsense, whether they’re rookies or big-time Galacticos.”
It remains to be seen, what if anything MLS's Disciplinary Committee will do in what now clearly appears to have been a premeditated attack on Beckham, shown in the video below (at minute 4:02)
What do you think? Malicious intent or just another day at the office for Serioux?

It was clearly malicious intent. He comes out publicly that he will aim for and hurt Beckham, and then delivers a tackle like that, that in no way shape or form is an attempt at the ball. He slid away from the ball sweeping Beckham's legs, there is no way to even try and say it was a legit attempt at the ball.
Serioux should feel ashamed, not under appreciated. He has not done nearly the amount of things that Beckham has done in the soccer world, let alone bringing fresh interest into the game in America where the MLS has to contend with the big three.
With this mindset, this could be trouble for the MLS as well. If a trend like this continues(big name players suffering malicious tackles) and other big name players debate the move to come to America, they could decide otherwise, knowing that there are some fools who want to make a name for themselves that are going to seek them out and try and injure them.
The beautiful game should not be played like that.
Great piece of reporting here by you guys. I had not seen that old interview but that simply confirms everyone's suspicions. Serioux must be suspended for a minimum of five games.
The thing is that real hardmen don't go around making silly noise. They may leave you bruised but they'll keep their calling cards as clean as they can. Real enforcers also don't have hairstyles typical of percussionists for a local fusion band.
What do you LA people think of Tyrone Marshalls leg breaking tackle of Cooper last year? What did Tyrone deserve for that?
FCD has now played the Galaxy three times since Becks showed up (twice with himin the lineup) and this malicious, premeditated act happens at this time? Becks deserves the same treatment as any other player in MLS. Plain and simple. I have seen this type of tackle (and it was a red card for sure) many times in this league (and many other leagues) actually go unpunished or just a yellow card given.
there was not intent toinjure, no maliciousness.......simple "quit your posturing boy and play" is all. Becks and Landon are pretty classless players. Very nice peole off the field but twice now they have done things that are pure classless (Landons throat slash last year in SuperLiga and Becks with his antics after the tackle).
so, please stop with the blind faith of "Becks the saviour". he is great for the game here (mostly for his bringing attention to it and the things he does in the community) but he is not the "great" player that you people seem to make him out to be.
and, if Adrain had really wanted to hurt Becks, he would have.
"Real enforcers also don't have hairstyles typical of percussionists for a local fusion band."
Reggae man, it's reggae. And I disagree.
Good stuff, this is the sort of work thatll get you sued (provided you start writing about people that make paychecks that can pay lawyers).
I'm not a big Beckham fan, nor am I a Galaxy fan, especially with the recent news of their interest in Henry (Seattlite). Serioux speaks as if he's accomplished half as much as Beckham, he may be a pretty boy, but he's done a lot in his career. Heavy fines and suspensions should always be in order for immaturity like that.
Jade,
Your lack of understanding of facts still amazes me.
"...lead to a 5-1 drubbing.."
It was already 4-1 when that happened. They were sooo irate that they scored another goal when they already had 4? I am sure that is why they were able to get a fifth goal. What happened on the first 4, did someone steal the Galaxies orange slices?
Good find.
It must suck to lose that badly and only be talked about when you tackle other people that are better than you are.
Shalrie is the rare excpetion, to be sure.
Ruud is pretty stupid for having Beckham play 90 minutes of every game. Beckham should have been subbed out way before that tackle even took place. There is no reason for Becks to still be in the game with a 4-1 lead.
