We all know Toronto FC has some crazy fans but now we know they also have some very odd ones as well.
If you watched the broadcast of tonights 1-1 drawof Red Bull New York away to Toronto FC
then you likely heard (but did not see) that a man ran onto the pitch in the 65th minute. The pitch invader was not shown on ESPN so as to deprive him of attention but we don't mind showing his picture. He sat down and assumed the position fairly quickly.
From the CBC:
Proceedings were halted with eight minutes left in regulation when a fan jumped onto the field and ran directly to the centre circle where he was escorted off by security.
That was the last major incident, as neither club could break through with a goal in the waning minutes.
We can only wonder what was going through his mind. He has been charged and has been fined and released according to sources.
In case you missed the game itself here are the highlights:

That was a sophisticated crowd? I saw puerile drunkeness, formulaic chanting and overall goofiness. It reminded me of the Blue Jays' crowds in the mid eighties: just looking for approval and recognition. That's what fuel the supposed passion up there.
If you were watching the HD version of ESPN2, you could see him.
