REPORT: More on Houston Dynamo/Chivas USA Riot (UPDATE)

The following appears to be a description of the man charged with the stabbing in what appears to be a University of Houston police/security report:

SUSPECT: Potentail description: dark skinned, hispanic male, approximately 5'5", with spikey hair, that was wearing a Battalion shirt. Due to numerous individuals involved in a fight, it is not known how accurate this suspect description is.
WEAPONS: Unknown type of knife.
SYNOPSIS: On May 3, 2008 at approximately 9:42 pm a Dynamo fan support group and the Chivas fan support group became involved in a physical fight outside the stadium after the soccer match. Numerous fans were involved in the fight. Sometime during the fight one of the fans was stabbed in the back. This fan did not know he had been stabbed and was made aware of it by other fans. He was transported to the hospital. Though several fans were arrested for fighting the investigation did not locate the suspect. This incident resulted from the soccer match and was not associted with any UH event.

And here we have another eyewitness account of the events that transpired.

Actually, we were about 20-30 feet away from the actual "riot"...it happened right by our tailgating spot by gate 11 right after the game...we had kids with us and I think those guys should be banned from attending the stadium in the future...They only arrested a few but the brawl was pretty big...

Right before the game, the Chivas fans (I dont' know if they were Chivas USA or Chivas de Guadalajara fans), arrived by gate 11...it was about 5 minutes before kickoff and we were picking up our stuff to go into the stadium when we noticed them approaching the stadium...they were rowdy, and seemed to be having fun...we even exchanged a few playful taunts, but all in good sportmanship from both sides. UofH police were escorting them which was great...we didn't see why this was needed...until after the game that is...When the Chivas fans came out from gate 11, there were no officers to be found close by. The fight started breaking out when a few drunk Chivas fans started picking on some our tailgating neighbors, calling them names, taunting them about the game overall...and one of the Dynamo fans responded..(bad bad decision)...

That's when it all started...all of a sudden you were looking at about 50+ people (men & women) going at it on the parking lot...and there were lots of families making their way out of the stadium at that time which made it worse.

The officers finally got there a couple of minutes later and started calming things down but they should have been there to escort them out just like they did before the game. It's common sense, you know most people, dynamo fans and chivas fans had a few drinks on them...why escort them in and separate them from us when coming into the game, but forget about them after the game?

It was awful, having passion for the sport is one thing...and yes the Chivas fans started it...but our fans shouldn't have responded either...well actually it was one guy...and then other guys started defending him too...

I really hope this doesn't happen again, we've been tailgating by GAte 11 almost every home game since the Dynamo moved to Houston and I want to bring my family along, most people tailgating there bring family...I hope this doesn't effect the family environment we had going on at Robertson.

Typical Chivas fans. They are the scum of the earth. All they do is cause problems here at HDC and like their team, they are just scum. Get them off the welfare and foodstamps and let them rot in the sewer

Got news for you here in LA the guy that started the fight was wearing Riot Squad shirt... a red and white striped one, with a Chivas logo, according to the videos.

guy above me,

who's to say it wasnt a LARS member wearing a chivas jersey?

What is a "potential description"?

How does this help the MLS angelomineiro? Yes a rivalry is born, but do you think that the majority of the public (that bring their kids to the games), will be willing to do so with people getting stabbed? Violence is the one thing that drives the fans away from the games, and not to them.
Besides the league has very few fans to begin with, don't need any of them to get stabbed..

I jus want to let you know that in every city MLS exist there is the Legion. We are for Guadalajara and Chivas uSA when they come to town. If you want trouble with us, don't start trouble. We trouble no one unless they start with us. But if you do start trouble we will finish it, ALWAYS. That goes for Club America, Atlas, Galaxy, Dynamo de Houston, DC United, ANYONE. Legion fear no one. You respect us, we respect you. You disrespect us,our colors or the Mexican flag and we WILL respond. Don't dis us. Simple as that.

I'm willing to bet the "Legion" fears Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Wait until the Superliga match between Chivas Guadalajara and Houston - 9:00 game on a summer weeknight.

This is garbage, as always rumors and their crappy tabloid reporting. I hadn't checked this site in months, until someone told me that pictures were posted of the incident. Those images are frames cut from a video taken after a the kansas wc final in 2007, and yet in the context which they are posted you make it seem as if they were of the incident...garbage.

Legion doesn't start, but they finish? Like walking up to a Dynamo fan, pretending to offer him a handshake, and then punching him in the face? Too bad he was only 1 against 5, or Dynamo fan would have taken you down.

The exact same thing happened the last time FC Dallas took a decent number of fans to Houston. They were escorted into the stadium but then after the game they were held in their section until most of the stadim was cleared. They were then escorted to the gates and left to wander drunkingly in groups of 3-4 back to their buses. Several fights broke out on the way. Regardless of what group is the blame it is idiotic of the security to provide an escort one way and then not on the way out...when more people are prone to be even drunker.

Man, it's funny how the facts get distorted depending on what you want to believe. I'm a Legion 1908 member and I was at the game with my girlfriend. Our whole group was held up inside the stadium after the game and when we were given the ok to exit we started walking and chanting back to the parking lot. At all times we were following the directions of the UH police and during our way out of the stadium some of the Dynamo fans started talking smack to us but it was all in good clean fun. The problem started when some punks from El Batallon showed up and started instigating... how did we know it was them? They had their faces covered and were actually wearing batallon shirts! One of those bastards tried to steal one of our flags and that's when the "brawl" started. Only thing is that it really wasn't a fight because the cowards started running back to their section.

Believe what you want to believe, but those sick bastards of el batallon have always been instigators, the hit from the back (as was the case with the stabbing) and then they run and hide like pansies. They have done it with other visiting supporter groups before but no one ever stands up against them.

If you really think that we are the ones who started it all you are either blind or stupid. Two of our guys were held after the brawl but were let go minutes later without even a ticket. The head of security for the stadium told us that he saw the whole thing and knows we were following directions and going straight to our assigned spot.

I cannot talk about other chapters of the Legion 1908 in our cities... but in 9 years of existence, the Legion 1908 Texas chapter had never had any incidents in any stadium. You can ask the Dallas fans if there is ever an issue with them.

any mexican that roots for Chivas USA is a dumb shit.. can't you see why the club was formed??? to make money off of mexicans by using the "chivas" name and outfit.. they rape the old beautiful tradition that chivas stands for..

and to legion members?? how does fighting show pride for your club??? it just shows how ignorant and uneducated people can be.. if you guys wanna fight or be thuggish go fight some gangsters or are you guys too scared?? and stop jumping people.. it's pathetic.

i'm a big dynamo fan and attended the game. i did get to witness the fight. sorry to say that it was one of our people(batallon)who started the brawl. my son and i were going to our car when we saw them taunting each other. it was all fun at first until some dynamo fans took it to another level. i hope this doesn't become a problem for the next games to come!

I love CHIVAS! I know our people don't go to games to start fights. We take pride in our team and go for support!
