REPORT: Fan Violence Amongst Chivas USA Supporters Lead to Chivas USA Attendance Downturn

According to this report on Sideline Views.

If you watched the Chivas USA-New England match, you may have noticed the large number of empty seats at the match. While this is nothing new - empty seats commonly outnumber filled ones at Chivas home games - what was different from this particular match was the absence of a certain fan group.

Legion 1908 was not present at the match, and no the Mexican Chivas did not have a reserve-laden match within driving distance on Sunday.

Apparently, a member of Legion and a member of the new Chivas USA supporters group Union Ultras were involved in some sort of altercation. A Chivas staffer told us that one member of each group committed an "act of violence" at the last Chivas USA match at HDC, on April 26 against the Galaxy. Apparently, there was one altercation inside the stadium and a retaliatory one outside.

Chivas USA is a failure. Let me explain. They only apeal to the Mexican population. This is becauses it is a sister team of the regular Chivas. Why would MLS which wants to put itself among the big leagues create a team that is the smaller version of the real one. Remember what that guy said about the streamers being minor league. In my view, this is more minor league than that. The Chivas in Mexico will always be the real deal. Chivas USA is like a spin-off of the team. Real mexicans don't care as much about the american Chivas USA.They want to know whats going on w/ the real one. I like The Chivas in mexico, but the American one. What a joke. Its like if basketball started growing in mexico and they expanded and added a team and called it The Cancun Lakers of Mexico. Its just silly. It makes me think MLS is taking a back seat to the other leagues.

Its good they have another team in LA to make a derby and a rivalry. But why would they name it chivas usa. They could of chosen a more marketable name. Then they would have better attendances.

Time to move this team to San Diego and re-brand it. I can only imagine that this will get worse.

I don't think moving the team to San Diego is going to help, you'll still get the same "fans" out and the problems probably won't go away. The francise needs to be moved farther away, perhaps Florida, St.Louis, Montreal or Atlanta.
I agree with the first poster's comments, Chivas USA doesn't have a place in MLS if the league wants to be taken seriously.

The Legion is sponsored by the Chivas USA front office and has condoned "acts of violence" against Galaxy fans for a coupple of seasons now. That's old news.
This incident was different because they provoked the Union Ultras (which ONLY supports Chivas USA) and attacked them before, during, and after the game.
The Ultras are smaller in member size, independent, bilingual, and lean more towards inclusion. The Legion is all Mexican, all Spanish-speaking, all Guadalajara, and well, volatile.
It would be foolish of all of you to group Chivas USA fans under the same umbrella of ignorance. We are more diverse than you think. The marketing of this team has been poor and weak. The front office has a history of turnover.
Shawn Hunter is running the front office now and has stabilized it considerably. One can only hope things get turned around soon.
Attendance is so poor and an obvious touchy subject, that it got an LA Times reporter fired for writing about it.

good to see la legion is being held accountable. only question i have is, why did it take this long? i witnessed la legion members throwing bottles at galaxy supporters last year, one bottle nearly hitting a 2-3 year old in the head. CUSA FO was made aware of it, and nothing was done. finally they have done something, but it is sad that it took this long for them to do anything.
