It was interesting watching tonight's MLS Primetime Thursday match of DC United at New England Revolution.

The game itself was pretty interesting but even more intriguing was finding out that David Beckham scored the Sierra Mist Goal of The Week. Which is quite interesting since as of the time of this posting MLSNet still has their page declaring another British import, Colorado's Tom McManus the Goal of The Week Winner.

Which begs the question: Who REALLY won?
Near as we can tell this was a mistake on the part of ESPN and there is nothing sinister about it but Colorado Rapids fans would be justified in feeling jobbed and also feeling some outrage that their legitimate winner was not shown.
We are all for giving Beckham exposure (this was done when Marcelo Gallardo's strike beat out one of his goals a few weeks ago) but it would be a major disappointment if MLS ignores the results of their own fan vote to the point of replacing the legitimate winner with a Beckham goal.
We hate the term but it smacks of "Mickey Mouse" league.

More MLS corruption involving LA and Beckham, big surprise. They just make up the rules as they go along... and they (MLS) wonder why they dont get the respect they think they deserve.
Ok, this is nothing new. They have been selecting the goals of the week all season long.
The Toronto fans picked up on the rigging pretty early. They've been capping the percentages once they reached a certain point, even picked winners before voting was even over.
I think TFC fans might have something to do with it. The support was so incredible last year that they would demolish fan voting compared to any other teams. I don't think MLS wants the same result this year. They have been hand picking them since the beginning on the season.
goal of the week is always rigged, this is no surprise, earlier this season guerva was robbed of goal of the week even though TFC fans voted his goal by over 14%
McManus' goal sucked any way. Go Galaxy.
Not to say McManus' goal wasn't nice, but Beckham's was in a whole different category of "It should never happen!"
This site is starting to suck!!!! Who cares they were both great goals get something worth writing about. FOX Soccer Channel is jacked up too. Since your bored who shot JFK? piss off you mouse lover, I just got a tip LA and NY will meet in MLS cup and in the 90th min. David Beckham gets a free kickfrom 35 yards out and he nails it and the mouse comes onto the field and beck's looks into the tv and say's I have your F'en mouse right here beachies.
Yeah, I can't believe they took the spotlight away from Tom. His goal was better than Beckham's and the cream rised to the top in the voting. I hope ESPN apologizes for this mistake and shows his goal. Besides it was a sweet hit.
it's an arbitrary subjective "award" anyways. who really gives a fuck. the entire point of goal of the week is to help market the product. no one markets the product in mls better than beckham. this is a giant waste of time, and i can't believe i actually read this blog post.
who cares? it's goal of the week.
they want to show beckham because that's what he's here for. to be shown. not a big deal.
Who cares about the GOTW? I am a Colorado fan and could care less about it. It's not like Colorado won the MLS Cup and ESPN said that some other team won it.
If anyone should be upset it should be Siera Mist.
GO GALAXY!
it is a micky mouse league. who the hell do you think comes to the games? they're all just soccer mom's and kids. pizza hut park? gimme a break...that's like naming your stadium "chuckee cheese park".
Goal of the Week voting is also susceptible to scripts. DC United fans are known to have used them at least once this year.
Hey whoever wrote that last comment must be a Toronto fan. DC did not use scripts UNTIL they learned Toronto fans were in order to vote for a rather ordinary free kick goal by amado guevara. The funny thing is that the dc fans used a script posted on Toronto message boards to even the score.
My eyes couldn't roll back any further. Mickey Mouse League? Jesus, man, seriously. Corruption? Get your head out of your ass. It's the "Goal of the Week". ESPN should apologize?
You guys have too much free time on your hands.
I think this post definitely deserves three OMGs!!!!
You all say Jade is gone, but her spirit of being obsessed with inane bullshit lives on.
I just have one thing to ask. Can we get back to the rumors? It has been a bit too much lately for me. I come because I enjoy MLS Rumors. I can hear about the racial slurs on other web sites, and I can hear the griping about ESPN on BigSoccer. I would just like to hear the latest rumors and team reports, please.
You bet, we're currently working on a few things, soon a lot of transfer rumors will likely fill the page after this weekend. We're also working on a special thing for the US Open Cup.
Hold tight and thanks for sticking with us. We much prefer rumors to the other stuff that's happened.
"pizza hut park? gimme a break...that's like naming your stadium "chuckee cheese park".
This has nothing to do with the MLS, pretty much every stadium has a sponsor these days, Pizza Hut is a Dallas based company and paid for the naming rights of the stadium. Chuck E. Cheese Park would be pretty awesome, i would love $1 beer night and a giant ball pit to jump in!
