INCOMING: Ulises de la Cruz to Red Bull New York?

Posted by MLS Rumors Tuesday, May 20, 2008

According to an interview by futbolecuador.com Ecuador's legendary defender, Ulises de la Cruz is considering a move to the MLS. De la Cruz is very interested in playing in the United States soccer league. He mentions:

"I talked with my friend Juan Pablo Angel [currently with the New York Red Bulls] and he [Angel] mentioned he is happy to play in the MLS since the press does not pay much attention to soccer."

De la Cruz would be a great addition to the MLS by bringing in more experience and class to the back line of a team like the Red Bulls. He has played in Liga de Quito and Barcelona of Ecuador, Hibernian of the Scottish Premier League, a great stint in Aston Villa of the EPL, and more recently played for relegation-bound Reading FC. He is currently out of contract. Considering the large population of Ecuadoreans in the New York City area, we feel that it would help to attract a whole new set of fans to the relatively empty stands at Giants Stadium.
Below is a video of him in action.

  2. Hes a good player! His style of play is very similar to the Martinez guy that anchors the backline at DC.
