MLSNet.comWhile it is not a big deal that MLS secured "Seattle Sounders FC" following this unveiling:
What IS interesting is that MLS also have secured the older "Seattle Sounders" trademark.
This was likely done in an effort to make any replication of USL or NASL Seattle Sounders gear by anyone other than MLS, illegal. So instantly any older pre-MLS Sounders gear and memorabilia may have gone up in price.
For many years the Seattle Sounders trademark was in the public domain as it had not been protected by USL owner Adrian Hanauer.
This would also seem to indicate that whatever the USL team in the Puget Sound area is named next season it will most definately not have anything to do with the name Sounders.
