During the recent CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-final 2nd Leg between DC United and Pachuca CF of Mexico, several US National Team bosses were sighted at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.
According to an emailer, they were there to observe and persuade one Jose Francisco Torres, a 20 year old midfielder with dual Mexican and US citizenship having been born and raised in Longview, Texas. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
According to our source, the persuasion may have worked, Torres really wants to play in the Olympics in Beijing this summer and since Mexico was eliminated during Olympic qualifying his only chance may be to join the USA camp.
Jose Francisco Torres doing well with Pachuca. He rose through theiryouth system, not an easy feat with so many talented players competing for playing time. His first league game was a semifinal match against Toluca in the Clausura 2006 season, due to Pachuca's participation in Copa Sudamericana. He played in four games before the start of the current campaign.

He does not want to play for the US. Who would play for US who cannot beat a single decent team from outside CONCACAF instead of Mexico? He certainly doesn't.
I don't know, ask Freddy Adu and Michael Orozco.
US is the richest nation on earth and its team is increasingly competitive.
And it routinely beats Mexico. US is going to the Olympics, not Mexico. US is going to the 2009 Confederations Cup, not Mexico.
Rinse and repeat 2-0
Pwnd
So the USA route inly beats Mexico. What about Brazil? What about any European nation with a footballing pulse? For some reason Mexico can beat those countries and the US cannot, so to simply say the US is more desirable than Mexico is bunk. Besides, I don't care for Mexico either. I cheer on my three lions who will obliterate the US 4-0 at Wembley next month. Play up boys!
He didn't score a goal in the video you have linked. He's wearing #25, and he was the one that dinged it off the top corner of the goal.
Both goals were scored by #28. Didn't get his name. My Spanish isn't that good... but it's good enough to know you got that detail wrong. Might want to fix it.
"So the USA route inly beats Mexico. What about Brazil? What about any European nation with a footballing pulse? For some reason Mexico can beat those countries and the US cannot, so to simply say the US is more desirable than Mexico is bunk."
Who are these European nations that Mexico regularly beats?
And so who do you want the US to beat then? Poland in a recent friendly? Or Switzerland or Sweden?
Or since this is talking about a youth player in a youth tournament (keep in mind the US team was the youngest team in the tournament), Brazil in the U-20 World Cup? or Poland in the U-20 World Cup?
Regardless of who the USA beats it will never be enough for you.
And sorry but your 3 Lions Suck.
The USA beat them twice before so they can do it again.
Do you support England cause you are actually from England? Somehow I doubt it. Fuck off eurosnob.
3 lions Chupa!!
People answer me this. Who has advance farther in the world cup in the past 20yrs. Mexico or US? i Recall the US spanking Mexico on the world stage. And to borrow a line form DOS A CERO
Rinse and Repeat 2-0
LOL.
I'm American but understand footballing passion, quality and skill. These qualities are totally lacking in MLS or the US National Team. The so-called best Americans can only play for relegation bound teams. The other Americans play in second tier leagues.
If you listen to World Soccer Daily you'll realize very few Americans want to talk about MLS. It is all EPL and Three Lions. Most don't care about the US National Team also. Why would someone brought up in a footballing culture like Rossi or this kid play for the US when they can play for a real footballing nation.
I'm sorry but Freddy Adu is a fool who was created as the "American hope" since the US has none in this game. He'd have been much better off playing for Ghana.
Anonymous,
First off if you judged national teams by the clubs they play for Honduras would always beat the US and England would always beat Germany. We know neither happens regularly so, obviously you know nothing.
Secondly you are an American who claims to be a fan and you bash your own domestic league and national team? I am critical of both and happen to believe MLS has a long long long way to go to even be competitive with the Mexican League but I also firmly believe English football in all forms is over rated.
The fact that you base some of your opinions on WSD tells me all I need to know about you.
USA 2-0 England
Foxboro 1993
You recall that?
Did you know the US' quarterfinal run in 2002 matches England's deepest run in the Euros or the World Cup in the last ten years.
England isn't considered a top footballing nation outside of the UK and some ex-pat influenced and affected areas of North America and Oceania. People in most of Europe and Latin America laugh and the mention of England among world powers.
"If you listen to World Soccer Daily you'll realize very few Americans want to talk about MLS. "
There's your problem right there. You're basing your opinion on what you believe to be the opinion of callers to a radio show?!?
I listen to that show as well and both hosts seem legitimately excited about this MLS season. And the poll they conducted on their web site "How much are you looking forward to the coming MLS season?" had 65% of the people saying They were very intersted and another %15 percent extremely interested.
Let me ask you a question: why do you visit this site if you have no interest in MLS?
People like that asshole England supporter is that he is a McFan. Someone who wants instant gratification.
You aren't a supporter. You aren't ENGLISH. You're American and if you were true football supporter you'd support your boys on relegation bound teams and in their domestic league (MLS).
I know you lot, you come into our pubs and act as if you were born in Romford, and have been an England supporter since your father took you to your first game at Wembley...oh wait a minute.
To be honest we tolerate you yanks who wrap yourself in the St George's Cross, but we laugh at you when you leave the pub.
How on earth do you EVER think your country will go anywhere in football if you don't support it? It's not as though your the only country in the same situation, look at Japan, look at Australia. They support their national teams and domestic leagues. So should you.
I'm English in case you ain't worked that bit out yet and I watch MLS via the internet.
Why? I think MLS is an entertaining, fast growing league which is miles better than it was just 3 years ago. For me it is entertaining football in the summer is always a good thing if you're an addict like me.
And why are you knocking your national team? They did well beating Portugal in 2002, the youth players seem to have more skill and vision than their forebears.
If you were a betting man you'd do better to put money on the USA than on England as bad as we've been playing lately.

Hey man, don't use my lines.
Why limit the time to 20 years? The USA reached the Semi Finals of the 1930 World Cup, and beat England in the 1950 World Cup someting Mexico NEVER has done. Both Mexico and the USA have been to the Quarterfinals at the World Cup. So what are you squaking about?
Stop pretending Mexico is Italy.. Nearly every Mexican football fan who asks the question you ask wouldn't ask it if they actually knew the real answer. Neither Mexico nor the USA are World Beaters yet.
And while we're at it US Soccer Federation was founded as the US Football Association some 14 years BEFORE La Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación.
You know what, tell me the last time that Mexico beat the US in the last 10 years?
Suck on that tradition and have another dose of Dos A Cero.
Rinse.Repeat.Retry
I like England because cristiano ronaldo will take them to the final and win the world cup.
no wait that TEVEZ guy..
Wait I am sorry I mean berbatov
Hahaha! That's so true. Most of the best players in the Premier League are not even English, though, some of these snobs here probably think that Frank Lampard and David Bentley are "world class"
All this bickering is pointless. On any given night, any team in the world can beat any other. That's just the way it is, its why the games are played and why we like them.
some of my favorite u.s. results:
3-0 win vs. Argentina in '95 Copa America
1-0 win vs. Brazil in '98 Gold Cup
2-0 win vs. Germany in '99 Confederations Cup
3-2 win vs. Portugal in '02 World Cup
2-0 win vs. Mexico in '02 World Cup
1-1 tie vs. Italy in '06 World Cup
if he plays for the u.s. in the olympics, does that mean he's tied to the u.s. national team for the rest of his career?
Blogger Dos a cero...
Mexico has never gone past the quaterfinals in the world cup. I know about the US result in Brazil. Reason i didnt include was that mexico and most of the world at that time outside of Europe didnt care to much about soccer. In the past 20yrs (since the US has taken soccer seriously) we advance so much. Im willing to say that in the past 20yrs we have accomplished more than any other country has establish in that same amout of time. I think by the time world cup 2010 is over we will see the new US youth and we will be a Soccer Power heading into World CUP 2014
Cletus, if you read this blog you would know that we credit Goff and other blogs when a story comes from them. We however did not get this story from goff but rather the story came from one of our contributors who without going into detail has family that knows the player in question.
Thanks for providing the link. You and it have been removed.
I call bull on this, just because Luis Bueno talked to him after that game and pretty much said he wants to nail down a starting role in Pachuca instead of going to the Olympics. Plus Mexico has world class coach in Eriksson now, and the US still has Bradley.
