According to this report on Setanta Sports web site, the Reading goalkeeper and heavy metal fan may be headed to the new Seattle Sounders next season. Hahnemann’s contract runs out at Reading in the summer of 2009.

"We have always thought eventually when we’re done that we would go back, but you never know when that will be. We always talked about if a team did start up in Seattle then we’d want to go back at some stage,” Hahnemann told GetReading.

“Now there is going to be one. They are doing everything right and eventually when Reading don’t want me any more and I get sick of driving on the wrong side of the road and buying petrol instead of gas then I might leave.

“The team will start playing in Seattle in two summers’ time. They had a big press conference on Monday and announced the team name and logo.

“It always used to be the Seattle Sounders and they were talking about changing the name, but you can’t change the name.

“They said it will be different now because it’s an MLS team, but when Beckenbauer and Pele were playing over there it was the Sounders and they are sticking with that. The logo is cool with the Space needle.”

It was widely believed that Kasey Keller would return to the states to take on the goalkeeper job for Seattle but it looks more likely he may stay with Fulham as they descend into the Coca-Cola Championship.

  2. Amazing. MLS going after an American player. I can't believe it.

  6. Obviously he won't be a DP or close to it. MLS is the league in the world that insults the American player more than any other. Being a foreigner or having a foreign sounding last name instantly makes you twice the salary in this mickey mouse league.

  8. Very disappointed that Keller's not coming back. I've been a keeper since I was 7 and followed him from back when he was a Pilot.

I don't know why this league isn't willing to pay for quality keepers.

It might be as simple as supply and demand. The US pumps out a lot of good keepers.

  10. I don't recall hearing anything saying Keller's not coming back.

Seattle could be in quite a pickle keeper-wise. With both Keller and Hahnemann possibly interested, and Eylander a very solid keeper, this story looks even more entertaining to me than the DP hunt.

  12. I would be surprised to see hahnemann leave Reading by 09 but I guess it could happen. He is a solid keeper and is pivotal to the success of reading. He has been a great shot blocker this year and is a big reason they probably won't be relegated.
