Could the Spanish midfielder be headed to BMO Field?

This comes courtesy of our friends at tribalfootball.com:

"Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta is on his way to the USA. The Sun says the Spanish midfielder, 34, bowed out in a reserve game against Manchester City on Tuesday. Mendieta, once valued at £30million, was restricted by injury to just 76 games in five years. He is now set to join a Major League Soccer club in the States. "

Hmmmm.....I smell T.F.C.

Seriously, this looks like another likely candidate for a club which seems to mine past its sell-by date talent from the UK but who knows?

More here at The Sun.

As always, here's video of him in action:

  6. I doubt Red Bulls, although they do need midfield help, Osorio seems focused on defenders for now.

  10. To many in the UK MLS in general = "The States".

Darren Huckerby despite being linked with Toronto was often mentioned in the UK Press as going to "the states".

  12. Yeah, but there is no way this guy is going to toronto. It is a pointless move for them, nor do they have the capspace after all of their signigns. they need a forward. other teams, in the real states, need midfielders.

  14. Mendieta was a terrific player for Valencia, but when he moved to Roma to play for Lazio he made the wrong decision and since then he hasn´t been succesful at all.

  16. won't be Toronto FC. Their are only two places I can see him going really LA and KC. I've I could put money on it I would say he was going to KC to hook up with Claudio Lopez

  18. have to agree with most on here...its not gonna be Toronto. Just because some reports say Toronto or the random emails you all get say that, doesn't mean it will be. There's no way the Reds have the cap space to sign anyone who isn't a DP this summer. This guy won't be a DP so count him out here...
