When Columbus Crew changed their kit to one that looked a lot like Borussia Dortmund, we had no idea they'd actually pursue a player from Dortmund.
Quickly after being spurned by Celtic's Maciej Żurawski multiple reports are reporting that Columbus set their eyes on a new target for their DP slot: Lars Ricken, a 31 year old, injury prone, midfielder who is a former German international.
EDITORIAL: Is he REALLY the answer to Columbus's on-the-pitch problems?
Will he put bums in seats at Crew Stadium?
Our view is probably not, something tells us his playing style will not mesh well with Schelotto and Columbus's problems are that they have no reliable strikers. Additionally most people in Columbus will probably ask "Lars who?" "The guy from Metallica?" "Wasn't he on Real World: London?"
Bad move for the Crew.
We think Columbus can do better.

He'd be fine...so long as he isn't a DP.
Why?
This news could be indicative of the problems in the front office - maybe they don't understand the word "striker."
I live in Columbus and know some people with the club, they aren't even thinking about this guy as a DP. And really I don't even know if they are seriously looking at this guy at all.
Why an injury prone player at that?!?
I think the Crew FO staff might as well cancel the season if that's all the better they can do!
this guy is definitely not worth a DP -- but if it's true he's on trial, then he's worth a look, but don't get your hopes up.
