Seattle Sounders to be renamed in Tuesday MLS announcement

According to several sources known to MLSR, the Seattle MLS club will not carry the name of the NASL and USL1 Seattle Sounders.  A story on MLSNet's website referring to the unveiling of the name and crest has been modified to simply say that details will be revealed.  Also suspect is the fact that current Sounders and Seattle MLS owner has never re-registered his Sounders trademark with the US Trademark and Patent office.

All signs are pointing to a change in Puget Sound Futbol.

Here is the original text of the MLSNet story:

Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber will be in Seattle on Tuesday, to announce that city will receive an expansion franchise to begin play potentially in the 2009 season.

The Seattle team will be owned by Hollywood movie studio executive Joe Roth, Seattle Sounders managing partner Adrian Hanauer and Vulcan Sports and Entertainment, the owner of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Full details on the team, including its home stadium, the club name and logo and team staff, will be unveiled at a Tuesday press conference in Seattle.

OUTGOING: Fernando Clavijo sacked from Colorado Rapids...

MLSR has learned froma trusted source that the other boot has fallen in Colorado. Unsurprisingly, Colorado Rapids manager, Fernando Clavijo has been shown the door. Our source, close to KSE says this was the the 3rd time this season that they mulled over the decision, going so far as to tell Clavijo to win or go home several months ago. He didn't win, and he stated to the press and on radio that didn't like the fan protests for him to step down, now he goes home.
